    big, jay, ghost, and nas have to be in any top ten. you can make strong cases for wayne and rakim. (dre too, though he's a weird case--outkast is probably the best musical act of the past three decades, but how do you rank half of a group?) lauryn hill's debut is great, The Score is great, but i don't see how you put her above a good thirty to forty other rappers. eminem and kendrick shouldn't be considered. maybe kendrick one day if he gets back on track.

    i mean, that doesn't work as a way to dismiss kanye. it just doesn't. i think you can have a very respectable top ten without him, but if we were doing this on pure rapping ability, where's pharoahe monch? where's aceyalone? where's young thug?
