Not only does the album have nothing to do with The Marshall Mathers LP, it's basically incoherent, random, scattered all over the place. Even Headlights that should have been on the same level as Going Through Changes or Deja Vu sounds uninspired. He's focusing on rhyming million words instead of saying something meaningful.
It's almost as if Encore is a more enjoyable album. On paper it sounds impossible because there's focus on technicality here, rhymes, etc, but overall it doesn't feel enjoyable.
Rap God is boring. The only good parts are "Even though I walk into church and burst into a ball of flame" and the part that ends with the Columbine reference.
So Much Better is such a forced song. The whole "I hate women" thing has to stop. It was funny the first few years, but it's not funny when you're 40 something years old. He probably literally went "Alright, I hated on women in MMLP, I'm going to write a song about hating women now."
All in all, at first I thought this is a classic. Especially when the first song is Bad Guy, which is probably the only song that stands out now. Now instead of "classic" this album can be summed to another word: empty.
But, the bonus songs are great. I want an album of those bonus songs.
Relapse is a much better album than MMLP2.dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl, chip100, n9ne and 10 others like this.Apr 3, 2026(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I really don't get the hate for MMLP2.
The worst thing about the album is the name. If it was named something original then our wouldn't be held to the same light as MMLP.
Bad Guy, Brainless, Evil Twin are classics imo.
You're right about the bonus songs though, if they formed part of the main album it would be a whole different story. -

Every time I read one of these threads I feel better about myself to know that while I am a huge Eminem fan, I don't want to k--- myself because he puts out a mediocre album. Some of you guys take this s--- serious. And it amuses me endlessly to see people rate the album as an 8 or 9 out of 10 just to come back a year later and say it's garbage. Bipolar MFers lol. -

Relapse is horrendous from the song writing to the rapping to that horrendous accent. The only thing that was a success about Relapse as a whole was its production. Recovery is a safe/generic pop rap album that he decided to make after two failed attempts with Encore and Relapse. Many of the song concepts are cliche and take no type of chance. He went from rapping in a weird accent and stuffing as many syllables as he can into one bar to shouting cringeworthy punchlines over some really heavy production. Luckily for him, Recovery isn't unlistenable but it's not something I would to care to listen to in 2015.an0nymous, Translucent and Valigant like this. -

I'm probably Eminem's biggest fan. I have huge expectations of his next solo album despite this. But this particular album is pissing me off. He's still the greatest rapper to me, he's just painfully misguided.fabris22, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl and Jakey like this.
