Oct 28, 2015 the 1990s might have by volume the best rap ever, and definitely at the very top tend. but vince is totally in the right here. he's 23--what f---ing obligation does he have to be up on the group home album? he's not trying to be a critic or a historian. he's rapping.
Oct 28, 2015 Vince is a young thug x future fan, id rather get his thoughts on that then him arguing with dusty 40 year olds TBH
Oct 28, 2015 I agree with vince in a way. Not about the 90s being overrated, because it definitely deserves the credit it got, there was a whole slew of artists that brought forth a LOT of changes and breakthroughs that impacted the way rap is to this day. But i agree with him on the fact that the 2000s & on get way less respect than the 90s, even though lots of credit is due there as well.
Oct 28, 2015 And he's correct on some levels. people making it out like the 90's were the only good times in hip-hop, overrating tons of albums.
Oct 28, 2015 i can see everyone cosigning vince for all the wrong reasons lol. his main point is just that he raps for a living, he has no obligation to be as sanctimonious about older hip hop releases as others feel they need to be. that doesnt mean he doesnt listen to older hip hop (he does), doesnt mean some of his favorite artists arent from those various eras (they are), doesnt mean he discredits others for liking it (just people who hold it on an unparalleled pedestal)
Oct 28, 2015 yeah and the ultimate point isn't that the great albums from the 90s are overrated--it's that the whole era is held up as some greater plane of rap. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is definitely better than Down for Life, but Immobilarity isn't.
