    i don't think it's that good, but it's an ambitious record by a great artist. it would be a more deserving winner than many years.

    What exactly are the messages/themes? Drinking lean? Being a Trap n-----? I think the themes/messages on TPAB are pretty clear: Don't give into living a superficial lifestyle of wants, represented by lucy/uncle sam. Some songs delve into different issues and messages, such as "Alright" and "The blacker the berry" delve into police brutality, the standing of blacks in America etc. But it all wraps back into the albums central themes as described in the poem, which ties everything together in a more articulate way than any other album I've ever heard.

    As far as how "good" they actually are, that is very subjective. One could argue that DS2 or IYRTITL have better individual tracks, which is reasonable, but I think TPAB is greater than the sum of its parts.

    the measure of how good an album is is...how good that album is. "message@ shouldn't come into it except insofar as the album clearly articulates that message. future's is certainly a stronger argument on its central themes than kendrick's is. the latter is scattered.
