rly, the larger issue here is how flat and one note the portrayal of dre was in Straight Outta Compton. It's not just that his part was so sanitized, but it was a. essentially the main role... b. utterly devoid of any personality/character development.

i guess the trade off to dre's involvement/blessing was the assurance his and eazys roles would be most prominent, his songs would get the most attention, and anything resembling insight into who he was was totally omitted. toss on the poor acting job from corey hawkins (hard to blame him tho), and its the film's biggest liability.

I did notice that, hah -- its "troubling," b/c ordinarily I'd be doin backflips over the enormous success of a black themed movie in hollywood directed by a black director. and there's some stuff to like about the movie... just not after cube leaves the group. why couldn't we see more of dre day/eazys beef, why werent events like attacking dee barnes or forming aftermath depicted as part of some larger arc

(also, like always, its discomforting that it took this level of success achieved by a black public figure before society decided to give credence to accusations #hm)
