"medium talents" is actually how bill murray referred to chevy chase
i do see your point about dicky... but i still dont think his privilege should disqualify him. i feel like u only prefer rap artists who reinforce the kinds of social injustice and urban nihilism ur convinced exists in the world

The core of Dicky's music is up for interpretation. That's what we're arguing about. While you think it's about race commentary, a lot of us are pretty sure that it's about humor and playing a character. At the same time, I've never seen you blow up at any of your favorite rappers for their rampant sexism (see your response to the song White Dude). You'd probably chalk it up to environment or something, which is a fitting excuse for Dicky. What about the fat black women when obesity happens to be a serious issue for black females? You really expect some sheltered, white pothead joke-rapper to have some poignant insite or a sterile and pc perception of things? Stop playing the white teacher who rescues the black kids from injustice in the world and relax.CODEiNE DEMON, Ordinary Joel, lil uzi vert stan and 6 others like this. -

Honestly, as big of an issue as racism is, it's okay to joke about sometimes. What Dicky's doing is funny and should be looked at as funny, nothing less or more than that. He's a comedian. Comedians joke about race all of the time.CODEiNE DEMON, Red Rum, Ordinary Joel and 2 others like this. -

I think @WPG not caring about white people is silly obviously -- we are an entitled people so why should he
The issue to me is how he overlooks sexism, homophobia and anti semitism in rap -- casual topics by a plurality of classic artists. It's all conditional which is why dicky should be taken within context too.Michael Myers, what, Groovy Tony and 2 others like this. -

My major annoyance is people getting offended by his success with comedy rap, and blaming that offense on a few race jokes. Jokes about all races, mostly white mind you.
Jokes that are FAR less offensive than some of the things Eminem or Biggie have said about women.
For example, in White Dude, Lil Dicky acknowledges his privilege as a white male. He details personal advantages he's experienced in life in a comedic style. Would you prefer him not to bring this issue up at all? I mean, it exists. Would you prefer he take Macklemore's apologetic angle instead?
To me, Macklemore's version of "White Dude" feels like him posting his Kendrick apology text after the Grammy's (Kendrick hated that). Check out those Youtube comments. It seems like there's no way to discuss white privilege and NOT offend someone. I get it, it's a sensitive topic. Lil Dicky chose the comedy route. Eminem embraced it. Action Bronson ignores the issue all together.
Dicky has been quoted numerous times saying he wants to be the "Larry David of rap". I don't recall anyone getting all up in arms about Curb Your Enthusiasm, which covered racial differences numerous times in comedic fashion.
Lil Dicky doesn't mean any harm. He's approaching sensitive topics with humor and honesty.

Im going to say this now.. I REALLY like this, slightly new approach.. but it definitely works.
Two completely different artists, but what first caught my attention about Eminem was how different he was, the things he'd talk about and stories he'd tell. Im getting the same kinda vibe from Dicky.Vice2vursa, dester23, JFK and 1 other person like this.
