This is just a general response to the issue, not to you specifically but quoting you cuz it's relevant.
First: is anyone here actually offended by her calling Eminem fans white trash? Is this really the tweet we're upset about? The one from 2014? C'mon guys, I get that there's a double standard (calling someone blacktrash would create a HUGE controversy), but the only reason you guys give a s--- is because this involves Eminem.
Banks' original response was to Eminem talking about beating Lana Del Rey like Ray Rice beat his wife. This is 100% unprovoked. It's misogyny for the sake of misogyny. It's not interesting. It's not funny. It's definitely not edgy. Eight months later, Eminem responds in a freestyle basically saying "ha ha w/e" because he doesn't have an actual comeback and is afraid to actually go at her because there's no way to really justify or validate what he said. As she stated, she's been a victim of domestic violence. Of course Banks is gonna call him out on that and defend herself. The types of things she does and says are the exact types of things Eminem did in 2000, and it's probably what he would do now if he wasn't a shell of his former self and knew how to use a computer. What are you guys even fighting for? Eminem's right to make fun of battered women? What a noble cause. This is why it's baffling to me: that something so minuscule like that eight month old tweet (that was a response to something much worse) evolves into people calling Banks a whor- or a dumb b---- or a raging feminist c---- (a domestic violence victim standing up for herself and defending other domestic violence victims makes you a "feminist c----"? I hate tumblrina feminazis just as much as the rest of you, but seriously: grow the f--- up), but everything Eminem says is totally fine.
This has nothing to do with calling out Banks for her alleged double standard and everything to do with blatant stanism and people defending their decaying idol. Which is fine I guess (I forgive Kanye in a lot of cases, though his actions are in a totally different ballpark than Eminem's), but don't try to paint it as anything else. Do you know why she calls Eminem fans whitetrash? It's because of people defending something like this and the comments like in these three threads.Last edited: Jul 23, 2015Ordinary Joel, Wyte Mike, Webber and 5 others like this. -

i agree with this -- i think it's important to acknowledge and celebrate cultural differences and, yes, maybe even poke fun at those differences on occasion. at the same time, we must also recognize (and this isn't limited to the US) that decades of systemic prejudice have imparted certain behaviors to specific classes of people. passing a law, or listening to one type of music, will not alleviate generations of suffering. but rather a broader dialogue will foster understanding and, hopefully, begin to close the gap. change is slow, and thats necessary in alot of cases -- thats one of the most encouraging aspects about obama's presidency. by the time he leaves office, you will have schools of children who only know a black man as president. regardless of his policies and their efficacy, that speaks volumes
id also like to cc: @WPG who is both quite white, and a scholar of all things black. also, its important to also include @Swizz, who is blackRetiredAccount, Ordinary Joel, gorealsteady and 4 others like this. - Nov 24, 2025
