Jul 17, 2015The thing that connects him to the Wayne shooting is the fact that his tour manager is the alleged shooter. The instagram and videos are evidence. The judicial system can throw it out if its deemed not admissible, but, the police have the responsibility to use whatever evidence they can find to solve cases of violence to make our society a better place.
It's not like Brad Paisley could start a beef with Blake Shelton... Make a bunch of pseudo threats against him on Instagram and concerts... Have his tour manager handling an AR-15 in a music video... And then when said tour manager is arrested for shooting up Blake Shelton's tour bus the cops are going not investigate Brad Paisley because he is white.

It's definitely not okay that cops are arresting rappers based on their instagrams/music videos. It's easy to say "OMG THEY'RE SO STUPID FOR POSTING THAT s--- I DON'T FEEL BAD" that's cool but it doesn't make what the cops are doing any less troubling. It's a trend that's going out of control lately.Ordinary Joel, Narsh, pluto✰ and 5 others like this. -

thug is facing charges for what was found in his mansion. the search warrant was issued because of the mall incident and because he was implicated in the april wayne tour bus shooting. the only thing connecting him to the shooting was the "halftime" video. people can puff out their chests and talk about how stupid it is for these rapper to show guns on instagram, but he's facing five or six felonies because of his music.Meero, Ordinary Joel, white jesus and 3 others like this. -

He's facing five or six felonies because of the weapons and drugs.. Not because he's black and he's a rapper getting picked on -

hello paul.. just read your piece on this -- dunno. you're hiding your argument behind rhetorical indignation: "David Brooks’ of the world would self-righteously cluck, ‘don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.’" i dont know the facts behind this, but seems like theres a lil more to this than thugger being picked on bc of his harmless tunes, lol... "political prisoner"?
lets not conflate real social justice issues by comparing whats happening to a high profile artist like thugger to a "Gestapo response" -- if i were more kneejerk (or jewish) i might be offended by that association.
on the flipside, my conservative friends are bloviating about how the iranian deal is like Chamberlain acquiescing to Hitler (edit, what ISNT these days, to them.. jesus). its fine to backpocket intellectual thought by making these connections... but its lazy imo. i dont always agree with the likes of ta-nehisi coates but at least there's a real point of view being offered -

how so? cops targeting artists is nothing new. keith richards talks about the level of harassment the stones received touring in the south in his autobiography. think jack nicholsons last scene in easy rider. or billie holiday's multiple issues with law enforcement throughout her life. regardless i think its a red herring for folks to see this as strictly an issue for black rappers, if they do
im not arguing its unfair, but it certainly affirms many of these performers outlaw mystiques. tbh thugger is likely just a goof who needs to be managed better, but here in boston benzino actually had mob connections and was involved in an array of illegal activity. i think there being an investigation to get him off the streets (and away from the recording studio) to be wholly valid.
also agreed music video should be off limits, but why wouldnt you use someones IG or fb ? need to think about it more but its out there for public consumption. -
