    He became a better rapper towards the 8 mile era (imo his peak), but he seems more creatively free on SSLP than MMLP

    MMLP is too reactionary, which every album of his since then has been -- except for Relapse and MMLP2 tbh (the latter being ironic..quality aside, unlike the first MMLP, which was a reaction to the public in a lot ways, mmlp2 seemed to be Em shunning criticisms and embracing the boring old man he's became lol).

    Relapse is definitely underrated in many ways when you put it in this perspective..

    Whole post is on point. 8 Mile era Eminem was probably his peak...in the sense that he was a little more complete as an all-round rapper...but it's the rawness, darkness and pure creativity of SSLP that really draws me to it more than the 8 Mile stuff (or any of his other work...I love MMLP because it still shares a lot of the same rawness/darkness/creativity...but just not to the same level).

    Is making a reactionary record necessarily a bad thing? I've never really thought about that or taken it into account.

    what does that even mean? say goodbye hollywood just sounds like an amalgamation of every other song on the cd. stimulate is incredibly emotional and works extremely well conceptually. though knowing you idk why that'd matter though

    Stimulate is great. Wasn't disagreeing with that. But Say Goodbye to Hollywood is one of his best songs, how can it be his worst lol.

    i always thought most of the songs on 8 mile were dog s---. songs like rabbit run are the beginning of his descent into s---. a lot of people here consider 8 mile to be in his prime so it counts.
