Putting basically every song I can think of in the vibe I want to do in a big playlist before I start trimming down, I'm mostly taking from one decade but I feel like I'm already cooking ngl.

Okay, so with all the banter the last few years, the dude actually dropped an album. It was fun to call him trash and joke around.
But AOTW club is no joke. It's no game. It's serious business. So all bs aside I'm going to share my honest thoughts on 'I Am Music'

I will say this first; it's definitely interesting. Sometimes albums are so boring that there isn't much to say and tbh a bad album >> a boring one when it comes to reviewing them.

There are a few things on here that I definitely like, so there's that. But also a lot of s--- that makes me think this whole Carti praise is just an inside joke you guys aren't letting me in on lol.

It's f---ing 30 tracks, jezus... but here we go track by track:

Pop Out - when I first heard this I was so scared it was gonna be like this for 30 tracks. Fortunately this wasn't the case, because this is just unlistenable to me. It sounds like they gave a r----- a mic and he just spouts some words and adlibs over messy production. Awful song. 1/10

    - note, it isn't all gonna be like this I promise!

Crush - the production is fire as f--- here. And as someone said in the discussion thread the 'shawty don't make me crush' part is so catchy, especially the choir singing it. The whole time I was waiting for the song to take off but it sounds like just one (very) long intro.... it is 2 minutes of Carti saying cheah and Travis saying straight up. Then Carti has a small verse, which I think is fine. But man this had so much potential that they wasted by making this more an intro than an actual song. 6.5/10

K POP - it's short, and it's okay. No lame adlibs ur using the dying dogg voice, flow is fine. I don't mind this. 6/10

Evil J0rdan - the intro is fantastic. I already agreed with @DKC on that. The production is fire in general tbh. I actually think Carti's verse isn't bad either I like most of it. They need to tell that dude to shut the f--- up copying DJ Khaled though lol. 7/10

Mojo Jojo - it was fun hearing Kendrick do something different than rapping like he is getting the slaves free, but this whole Migos style (adlib after every f---ing line) annoys me a lot. Not a bad song really but yeah no. 5/10

Philly - I am usually not a Travis fan, but hearing him here was a nice surprise. Production is fire! Carti also has a pretty normal verse too, he doesn't ruin it. Solid song! 7/10

Radar - if it was just the verse and hook it would have been fine. But the constant SWAMP!!! And CARTI!!! screams by that annoying DJ ruin this for me. He also uses that s-----y voice some parts. Keep 3/10

Rather Lie - so yeah I am a fan of the Weeknd. And I was so scared Carti was gonna ruin this with weird voices and adlibs but he chose to rap more traditionally here. Okay guys, I love this song and already played this 10 times this week(e)nd. 9/10

Fine s--- - nothing special, nothing bad. Not much to say about this really. 5/10

Backdoor - kendrick and jhené are fine here I like their parts. Carti's constant sheah or whatever he says is so annoying during his verses. Song is okay but not really because of him. 6/10

Toxic - Carti doing a Future impression lol. Too much mumble s--- for me. Skepta's verse is kinda dope I like that. 4/10

Munyun - SHEA SHEA.. SWAMP IZZO SWAMP IZZO. This is not a mixtape f--- off lol 2/10

Crank - the beat is pretty cool and if it wasn't for the (again) annoying DJ bs this would have been okay-ish. Little better than Munyun though. 4/10

Charge them hoes a fee - this beat is so good man. But Future sounds so bored and the hook is so f---ing lazy.. and its literally twice in a row repeating the same sentence 8 times. Carti's verse is decent I guess and same w Travis but their verses are so short and most of the song is just them repeating the same line. Good and motivated rappers could have killed this beat tbh. 5/10

Good Credit - I like this one more than the other collab. Carti is fine and Kendricks verse is fun. 6.5/10

I seeee you baby boy - lol. 1/10

Wake up filthy - such a chore to get through. 3/10

Jumpin - awful lol both of them. So lazy and boring 2/10

Trim - well Future brings a lot more energy than the previous track he's on I like his verse!
Second half is f---ing trash though w the annoying DJ. 3/10

Cociane Nose - this beat is fire as f---. Carti's verse is kinda okay-ish if it wasn't for the constant faggy seah s--- or whatever he says all over this album. 4/10

We Need All Tha Vibes - yeah so a song that barely has Carti on it, and Thug/TY sounding great. Such a fun and catchy song. Carti's little part is whatever, doesn't ruin it. 7.5/10

Olympian - first half I kinda enjoy, dope beat too. Second half seahseahseah 3/10

OPM Baby - seahseah swamp izzo 1/10

Lil Uzi Vert - it is so ironic that I'm not a fan of Uzi at all but he is kinda fine here, and another Carti-less song I like lol. Fun beat, fun little song. 7/10

Like Weezy - what a great beat and sample, love it. The sheas and swamp izzo bs is kept to a minimum too. I kinda like this song. 6/10

Dis1 Got It - hook is lame as f--- but I kinda like the verse. Its short and harmless 5/10

Walk - Carti doing Future style. No sheas and swamp izzo during the verse, dope as f--- beat too. I dig it 6/10

HBA - okay I guess, the constant pauses are a bit lame but it's not offensive. 4.5/10

Overly - a fun beat not done justice with some weird s---. Not the worst song though 3/10

South Atlanta Baby - decent closer. Dope beat and this comes close to an actual longer verse for once. 5.5/10

Jezus christ. This was waay waay waay too long. Honestly, there's a 12 song project in here that I would actually give a decent score too.

See, it's obvious: my favorite parts of this album are either by other artists, or when Carti raps the most 'normal' / in a traditional way like on Rather Lie. You could also say that I prefer the safe songs on here.
But if he would always rap like this he would not stand out in any way, so I definitely understand that he tries some different s--- even if its not for everyone.
It says it all that the Carti fans like Pop Out and other songs I dislike, and find the more safe/'normal' songs to be the least interesting.

The conclusion is that I actually enjoyed listening to this, except it's length. The last 5 or 6 songs I was so done every time. But I went from hating a song, to liking a song, back and forth. It was fun.
Am I a Carti fan now? No, sorry @Yeez
But I am a little less of a hater than I was before. And yes, that is still mostly because of the production and guests, but hey I also liked some of the solo songs/Carti verses. Rated quite a few solo songs (above) average! Just not the extreme weirdo s--- some of you guys enjoy lmao.

Side question; don't you guys think the swamp izzo and syeah s--- is f---ing annoying?? It ruined several songs for me even if that doesn't mean I would really like them otherwise. But it makes this sound like a mixtape lol.
Still, cut this album in half, especially most of the second half....

Average rating ; 4.7. :notbad: :notbad:

    Playboi Carti - MUSIC REVIEW

Not sure how long this review will be, I am just typing as I go while I watch this video for class lol

Well well well, Carti finally dropped. 1,540 days between WLR and MUSIC, but was the wait worth it? My answer is...yes! Let's just hope we don't have to wait until June 1st of 2029 for the next album.

Waiting for this album since December of 2023 has been a ride for sure, from singles exclusively on Instagram, to varied features (insane that there is a Camila x Carti track lol), and fit pics after fit pics, it built up hype effectively despite being a drawn out rollout. Would this album have done better if it had dropped this time last year off the hype of tracks like CARNIVAL and TYPE s---, maybe, but looking at the current sales projections and streams, I think Carti will be just fine.

Onto the actual album though, off first listen I liked 27 out of 30 tracks, now it is 29 out of 30. The only miss for me is FINE s---, and even still I can admit the chorus is catchy. Carti showcases a bunch of different sounds here throughout 30 tracks (thank God, 30 tracks of the same sound would drive me insane even as a big Carti fan). Songs like RATHER LIE being on the same tracklist as songs OPM BABI, PHILLY, and LIKE WEEZY which all have different sounds provides reason to go through all 30 tracks. I truly believe there is something here for everybody! s---, even @Michael Myers took something from this project lol.

However, even though me saving 29 songs from your 30 song is EXTREMELY impressive, considering long drawn out albums (that are not considered double albums) do not do that for me most of the time, 30 songs is wild and trimming down the tracklist could have boosted the score of the album for me. There are for sure some tracks that could have been cut, most notably TWIN TRIM and WE NEED ALL DA VIBES. Not bad songs by any means, but why do they make an appearance here? I know this is supposed to have a mixtape feel, and it succeeds at it, but with both of these appearing in the back half of the album, it just feels like boosting song count last minute. TRIN TWIM is just a short, solo Uzi song that is a b-----r, but feels odd on here. It is a hard a--- verse too, wish Carti hopped on it for it to appear on Uzi's next album. WE NEED ALL DA VIBES was cool, but it's just an old Thugger song that Carti hopped on (and for a short a--- verse too). I would have preferred they made a new song together.

Trimming down some songs too could have also boosted the quality of them, and what comes to mind first is CHARGE DEM HOES A FEE. There is a lot of fat that could have been cut off this song. That part of the song where Future does some adlibs between the first and second chorus was not needed lol. Why not just do first verse, chorus, carti verse, chorus, trav verse, chorus? It is a more basic song structure, sure, but the song would be tighter as a result. Speaking of the Trav verse, while I like it, it feels too short for it to feel notable on the song. Travis is already on here 3 other times on better tracks, I would not be mad if I lost this verse.

Towards the end of the tracklist too, there are some songs that could get taken out too, but I do not want to say which ones because it's looking like my favs on this album are changing day by day and some songs that I think could get cut might end up being in my top 10 by the end of next week lol. There def is a slight bloat issue on this album, but the fact I like almost 100% of the tracks, it doesn't knock the score significantly for me whereas if it was a bunch of mid, it would drag down the score.

On the topic of features, I do feel like every feature did their part. There are a lot of repeated features, Kendrick 3 times, Travis 4, Future and Uzi both have 2 appearances, but they showed up and showed out. My feature highlights are Travis on WAKE UP F1LTHY and PHILLY, Skepta on TOXIC, Kendrick on GOOD CREDIT and BACKD00R, The Weeknd on RATHER LIE, and Uzi on JUMPIN.

Uzi's verse on JUMPIN even feels overhated to me. Sure, it's a short a--- song and an older verse (you can tell due to references to PINK TAPE and Carti's scrapped album Narcissist), but I think that verse is still the best part of the song. While an older song, it still differs from WE NEED ALL DA VIBES due to it being clearly a Carti and Uzi song, whereas the Thugger track was originally Thug x Gunna.

Carti has some great solo songs, LIKE WEEZY, I SEEEEEE YOU BABI BOI, DIS 1 GOT IT, EVIL J0RDAN, HBA, OLYMPIAN just to name a few favorites. He def did not get carried through this album!

As expected as well, the production on this album is incredible, I liked every single beat and I am a sucker for great production, so I was all over this. Chefs kiss! Would be an insane instrumental album if Carti ever decided to drop all 30 instrumentals offically.

Some additional negatives while I am thinking about it, CRUSH disappointed me. Not a bad song, I just thought it would be the big Travis collab on the album and I loved the snippet so so much, I think I just had too high of expectations for that particular track. I have seen people call it the Go2DaMoon of MUSIC, and I can see that. That track grew on me, so I would not be shocked if CRUSH worked its way up in my tracklist ranking. The (alleged) use of AI on RATHER LIE and FINE s--- is also disappointing. RATHER LIE is still a great song, but Carti's verses (allegedly) being AI hurts. The Weeknd and the fact that the verses are still good is why it still ends up around the mid point in my tracklist rating.

Overall, MUSIC is still a great album in my eyes. Some spots here and there that knock down some points for me. I believe that is all I have to say about this album, I hope I didn't leave any thoughts out but I managed to type this for close to 40 minutes so I think I should stop while I am ahead lol.

    SCORE: 8/10

I really don't get the hate for Swamp Izzo on this, like older mixtapes where the DJ yells are basically just pasted over the song are annoying but on stuff like this / d--- / Call Me If You Get Lost where they're mixed well into the track itself is fire to me lol
