Feb 16, 2025 Well played and nice work with the cover. You did what Eminem couldn't, please the whole audience.
Feb 16, 2025 @AOTWClub @jankland has posted his mixtape INTO THE JANK-VERSE I had a hard time figuring out a theme that made any cohesive sense so I decided to abandon that and give you 4 different vague genres with 4 songs given to each! I've to the best of my abilities tried to transition from genre to genre as smoothly as possible to varying levels of success but it works in my brain lmao. SONGS 1-4 (Rock/Grunge): Cream - White Room Fontaines D.C. - I Love You Soundgarden - Fell On Black Days Alice In Chains - Nutshell SONGS 5-8 (Acoustic/Indie) Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Bartender (Live at Radio City Music Hall) Big Thief - Simulation Swarm Phoebe Bridgers - Georgia Quadeca - Texas Blue SONGS 9-12 (Rap) GR€Y - Out Of My Hands (feat. Oddisee) Noname - Rainforest Mavi - Spoiled Brat Vince Staples - Yeah Right SONGS 13-16 (Hyperpop/Zoomer s---) Funeral - everybodydies Charli XCX - Claws Ericdoa - Search & Destroy Daine - smbl2 I hope everyone finds something to enjoy as I've tried to not flood it with a bunch of stuff that I usually talked about enjoying (with a few exceptions) and I figured this format would find a way to guarantee that at least some parts of the mixtape will be entertaining for everyone and the degrees of taste and musical interest. There is a ton of genres and artists that I've left out that I hope to get to at a later time in this thread! Allnis: 7.25/10 MM: 7.8/10 Jimmy Jazz: 8.5/10 Ripper: 8/10 Yeez: 7/10 Wrecklesa: 6/10 JT: 5.5/10 DiggleDogg69: 10/10 60.05/80= 7.5 Spotify Link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4bknzHX2PfBT2zNsad2CAc?si=7ce0575e81284004 Youtube Link: (3) Into The Jank-Verse - YouTube I will tally up @Ripper Roo mixtape on Wednesday night!
Feb 16, 2025 Outside of a couple song revisions I've been sitting on this playlist for like a month so I'm excited to finally share it!
Feb 17, 2025 Making this playlist is a b---- for real. I'm cutting down from 30 tracks to 16 but keep ending up adding songs smhhhh @jankland last song on ur PL >>>>>>>>>>>>
Feb 17, 2025 The jankland tape @jankland I liked how you split this into genres. The rock part was my favourite, I f----- with this section a lot, each song was perfect. This part was 10/10 I got to be in the right mood for Acoustic songs, they are more suited for when im doing outdoor activities like day tripping on mushrooms or taking a s--- in a bush. I was at work in an office so wasn't giving with it too much. The first song was an amazing live performance though. 6/10 I've heard all the rap songs before and they are from artists I mostly FW. 8/10 The pop section was ok but not really my thing. I only really f----- with the Charlie x song. 5/10 That averages out at 7.25/10 @Justin Trudeau
Feb 17, 2025 That's way higher than I was expecting from you brodie I appreciate it and glad you enjoyed! I love the rock and rap sections as well
Feb 17, 2025 @jankland now be honest big fella, did you pick a vince song from this album cause of the infinite transition potential? Cause i did the exact same thing lmao. Big fish theory has BEEN underrated.
Feb 17, 2025 I was trying really hard to find something to bridge the rap and hyper pop section and that song popped into my head cause of the SOPHIE beat so in a roundabout way absolutely lmao. I was also gonna choose different Charli and Ericdoa songs but I thought the transition between the two was cool
Feb 17, 2025 The transition is sick. The thought of you deliberately choosing this sophie x vince album popped into my head because it felt similar to how I went about placing a song from it on my mixtape. At first I was like ain’t no way this is some dark arts BS but then it clicked. 2 listens in and this is really nice by the way, but I’ll leave further thoughts for the review dropping soon.
Feb 17, 2025 Yeah I worried less about song to song transitions (although I took overall flow into account) but I tried to do my best on genre to genre transitioning. Nutshell is a more acoustically led song by AIC and one of my personal favorites so I figured that'd be a good segue, same with Texas Blue while not being a rap song had rap artists on it so it worked in my head in going into the rap section and I think Yeah Right into the Hyperpop section worked the best
Feb 18, 2025 Into the Jank-Verse Like how u took us into portions of different genres! I agree w Skux that the first quarter was amazing. I honestly never heard these songs so aside from being good it also gave me 4 new tracks for my playlist! White Room was probably my favorite, a 10/10 for me. The others around 8/9. The thing is, I'm not a fan of acoustic music generally. That said, the songs you selected are pretty cool. Simulation Swarm probably my favorite since it had a little more of an 'upbeat' sound. I give that one an 8, the others around a 7. Out of My Hands is a 10/10 song. Absolutely love it. Rainforest is okay, not really feeling that one (6.5/10), Spoiled Brat (7/10) and the Vince song I had to get into first but as soon as the woman started I liked it a lot. Then Kendrick delivered a 10/10 verse (9/10) Everbodydies not feeling a lot (5/10), the Charli song is dope (9/10), Search and Destroy is okay I guess and like I said I LOVE smb2l (9/10) Average 7,8! Dope playlist! @AOTWClub
Feb 18, 2025 Unfortunately my cat was diagnosed with ligma so I might not be able to get my review in until Wednesday or Thursday when I usually like to get it in by Monday or Tuesday.
Feb 18, 2025 @jankland - Into the Jank-Verse review To start off, I appreciated this approach of splitting the mixtape into genres. Variety is fun and this truly has something for everybody. The first, rock section, was brilliant. Never heard Cream before but what is there to dislike when it comes to prime Clapton on the guitar, sharp drums and great vocals. Very catchy! I’ll have to check their work out. This brings me to Fontaines DC, a band that I’ve been aware of for a long time now but, besides a song or two, never gave much attention to. I loved this track to bits! The vocalist has a great voice, and the track is immaculate in its structure. Great lyrics and post punk vibe. Saved the song for future listens. Will also finally stop delaying checking out their projects. Whenever I see Soundgarden or Audioslave representation anywhere, I feel obliged to state the following fact: Chris Cornell is the best grunge vocalist of all time, and he is up there among the greatest rock singers OAT, too. Great song, classic s---. RIP Chris Cornell. Nutshell was great. I love when rock/grunge bands lean into a more sensitive side and go semi-acoustic. Some great tunes are always bound to come out of this. The acoustic/folk side of this mixtape was amazing as well. This live performance of Bartender took a few listens to grow on me but I really like it now. Very grandiose with intriguing imagery in lyrics. My favorite has got to be the Big Thief track, Simulation Swarm. I love everything Adrianne Lenker. She is such a talented songwriter. Beautiful tune, its catchiness makes me wanna replay this Big Thief album again. I’d recommend anyone here who found themself enjoying Simulation Swarm to do the same and give the whole thing a try. Georgia is not a bad song but I struggle with enjoying Phoebe Bridger’s music. It just isn’t my thing outside of her album Punisher which is a bit darker. Meh melodies. The quadeca song took a while to click for me but when it did I started liking it a lot. I like the indietronic elements of quadeca’s work, very unique. The GR€Y and Oddissee song kicked off the rap section. Now this was a great cut. Very vibey with smooth delivery and beat. Very good writing too. This is jazz-rap done right. Noname’s songs can sometimes feel a bit preachy to me. I like this beat a lot and also her flow is butter; she can rap rap. Thing is though, the latter of the song permeates with a feeling of forced content. It’s like substance for the sake of substance. I’m all for rising up against billionaire scum and setting up new societal foundations but the way such ideas are portrayed here feels a tad cheesy and idealistic. The Mavi track I enjoyed quite a bit, the Earl similarities are impeccable. Same goes for Yeah Right - I fw this project heavily. RIP Sophie. As I mentioned ITT already, the Vince song provides an insane transition into the final part of the tape. I feel like this leg of the mixtape is farther from my own music taste genre-wise but I still liked most of it! All the songs chosen here were very approachable to someone like me who doesn’t partake in a lot of hyper pop. Funeral was fun, I liked the breakdown & the climax as the song reached its ending. The next song wasn’t my favorite Charli track but I did not mind it at all. search&destroy was probably my favorite song in this last part. Grabbed me immediately. Very bouncy; a JID verse here would go hard tbh. smb2l was an interesting choice for the closer, I liked the vocal performance but felt like the instrumental was kind of forgettable. All in all, this mixtape had some insanely high highs and was very consistent in how well it was put together. I enjoyed almost everything but to a different degree. Even the songs that weren’t my favorite were high quality stuff that I would be more than fine with hearing whenever. Great mixtape, man! 8.5/10 @AOTWClub
