Jan 9, 2025 Marsh is not built for this thread. Imagine him having to listen to music that isn't eminem or top 40 songs. Every review would just be "this was boring"
Jan 9, 2025 Perfect because your mixtape will be within a couple weeks of the semester mid point where s--- will be ramping up so I’ll need that
Jan 9, 2025 I can perfectly visualize Marsh joining AOTWClub, participating, suggesting MMLP2 Deluxe as his pick before he abandons the group
Jan 10, 2025 @AOTWClub @Wreckless Im gonna be busy as f--- this coming week from Monday-Thursday So I will Tally Up Silver Jews "American Water" on Thursday night @Wreckless can you try to have your mixtape posted by Sunday Night so I can have it posted and ready? If you have any questions let me know!
Jan 10, 2025 With Trudeau gone will u change ur name to the new Canadian boss? Which may in the future be Trumpy lmao
Jan 10, 2025 Lol its not gonna be trumpy, that guy's a f---in lunatic r-----. It's pretty scary making comments about taking over countries likes it an everyday thing lol But I may change it when Justin's gone, might need to bring back Danny Tanner
Jan 10, 2025 I forget that Justin Trudeau is a real f---ing guy until I see news about him and for a split second I always think it’s something about S80
Jan 10, 2025 When I saw the resignation headline, my first thought immediately S80 User Justin Trudeau instead of the actual former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Jan 10, 2025 Would be a downright travesty if the ex canadian prime minister decided to quit @AOTWClub too after his resignation from politics.
Jan 10, 2025 Sure I will post the tracklist on sunday and try to create a playlist for Spotify or Youtube, or both.
Jan 10, 2025 Thanks man anytime Sunday, I'll have a bit of time to k--- Monday too then won't be on much till Thursday
Jan 10, 2025 I think I might make a Ripper Roo account on Spotify and just publicly post my playlists there so anyone could access them at anytime
Jan 11, 2025 Silver Jews - American Water "Boy You Look Like Someone I Used To Know" Oh boy. Just to let the cat out of the bag early, I love this album. I've loved it since I heard it for the first time nearly a year and a half ago. "Buckingham Rabbit" was actually one of, if not the last song I listened to in 2023. I'm not sure if any of y'all experience this as well, but there are certain records that I listen to during a period of my life, and they become near inseparable from said time in my memory from that point forward. This applies to a lot of albums (including my former picks in this club) and American Water is no exception I think that one of AW's biggest strengths is it's simplicity. The instrumentation feels very laid back and i honestly feel very relaxed when listening to it. It kinda reminds me of Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot when it comes to the mood that they put me in. Weird comparison, I know. Of course there's also a Pavement-esque feeling throughout it, which isn't a surprise considering that Stephen Malkmus is literally a member of both Pavement and SW. I think the best example of how great the instrumentation is would be Night Society. Considering the fact that it has no vocals throughout, the listener gets to fully take in how the instruments sound by themselves. Then there's the lyrics. I have to admit that I was already aware of David Berman's suicide prior to listening to this record, The reason that I mention this is that I think that this knowledge might make me look at this record a bit differently than I would if I went into it completely blind. It's kind of like how the experience of listening to David Bowie's Blackstar after his death paints the album in a different light. As such, the album's lyrics give me a very melancholic vibe. There are some really killer lines on this record (The entirety of Random Rules basically lives in my memory rent free), but I can't help being a bit sad when listening to it. Berman's voice also works perfectly for the vibe that this record is going for. It's simple, but it's filled with so much emotion. So yeah, I love this record. I've already listened to Berman's last album Purple Mountains, but I might finally check out The Natural Bridge after having it saved on my library for nearly 2 years. Big thanks to @stepdad enjoyer for the pick and yeah. Favorite Tracks: All of them, but especially Random Rules, Smith and Jones Forever, We Are Real and Honk If You're Lonely Rating: 10/10 @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau
Jan 11, 2025 @AOTWClub Silver Jews - American Water It’s always a bit challenging to review music outside of my usual preference but I try to submit a review for every album. Unfortunately, this one didn’t quite resonate with me. The sound leans into ‘’old man’’ country which isn’t really my style. There were brief moments that reminded me of Alice in Chains but those lasted a few seconds. Overall, I enjoyed the first few tracks but as the album progressed I lost interest. Still, I appreciate the pick and it's nice to see some variety. 6/10
