    The diss was genius. Honestly, at Drake’s level, even a few years ago, nothing is going to topple him. But the way Pusha exposed his deal with Adidas and “you are hiding a child” and how Drake was going to reveal his child in an apparel/sneaker promo run, that stung Drake. And it ended the deal. The blackface made Drake issue a statement. And then J. Prince got involved. It didn’t end Drake’s career but it did about the most damage someone could do to Drake. Beefs don’t always end careers.

    drake was/is too big to fail from something like that at this point but it's a great diss track and had people roasting him like it was 2010 again

    tbh I like the slowness of it, it feels very purposeful or "surgical" as he says at the beginning. It's kinda just laying it all out slowly and plainly. I agree the SICK SICK SICK part is def the funniest and meanest, but I also think he really hones in on drake's familial and identity insecurities in a very pointed way. Not even the hiding a child part specifically but kinda the possibility of the repeating cycle of child abandonment. However I agree people overrate it. Especially in terms of damage to Drake's career it didn't do anything and Drake has proven to be a good father. But he was def roasted relentlessly for weeks and it damaged his ego in at a time when people thought he was entirely untouchable, especially considering how easily he laid out meek (a way bigger rapper) a couple years prior.

    also @dna hits we know akademiks reported on it beforehand but secret celeb children are in the tabloids every day and ak makes a video and breaks his chair every time drake takes a piss. I'd never heard ak report on it because I blocked that chunky dipshit on all platforms cuz I never wanna see any of his terrible posts. But look at google trends and search any combination of "drake child" or "drake kid" or "drake adonis" or whatever and you'll see that no one took it seriously or gave a s--- until push dropped the song. you can go as far back as you want on the timeline and the second highest search trend Is is in 2016 before adonis was even conceived.

    Exactly, the core fanbase is irrelevant. But the Adidas deal ending, statements being released, J. Prince intervening, those are real consequences from Pusha’s diss. Not career ending because no one can really end Drake’s career at this point but it left a mark.

    Meek bringing the ghostwriting accusations with receipts did way more damage to Drake’s career and legacy than this

    I can agree with all of this. It’s funny how public perception, and especially now, reaction on the internet as a trending moment in time, can shape how music is viewed especially with a battle. I think Back to Back is an extremely overrated diss too, but it was a moment in time and everything involved in that moment like the sheer catchiness of the song and Meek not responding made it more than it should have been. The same applies to TSOA as you laid out.

    Savage diss. Good times. Beef rarely ends a career, but a good diss will haunt them forever. The most scathing jabs in this strike at Drake's 'blackness' imo. That's the stuff that really appeared to hurt, the s--- that Drake often seems sensitive to, compounded by the cover and the beat selection. The hidden child aspect was perfect clickbait to make this the highest profile L of Drake's career.
