Mother's Day is coming up and these are two of the most popular dedications in hip hop. If one actually takes the time to analyze Em and 2Pac's upbringing, there are a lot of parallels between the two. Both Em and Pac were raised by single mother's who struggled to raise them and their children, both mothers also had drug issues. However, after making a thorough analysis of both songs, I've come to the conclusion that Headlights is far more superior than Dear Mama. Here are a few of the reasons why.


Lyrics:
-Headlights is about genuine remorse and wanting to change, Dear Mama on the other hand sends a message that d--- dealing is acceptable. "Even though I sell rocks, It feels good puttin money in your mailbox", this is a bad message for the kids. Pac is acknowledging the fact that d--- dealing is bad, but then proceeds to tell the listener that the dirty money it brings is satisfying. During one of Em's verse, he thanks his mom for being both his mom and his dad, at this point you realize Eminem is being honest and is aware of how Debbie had to work twice as hard for him and Nathan. Pac never thanks his mom for being his dad as well so you can tell he did not put any heart in this song, it was probably a publicity stunt to get people back on his side after they all found out he shot two cops and r---d a little girl while two dudes watched.

Visuals:
-Although both artists don't appear that much in each of their music videos for these songs, 2Pac didn't even make a live appearance. All I saw was recycled shots from some of 2Pac's older videos and the rest was just reenactments of his childhood, lazy prick. At least Em used genuine childhood pictures and brought the fans into his personal life. He even made an appearance at the end. Finally, Pac didn't even write a letter in his video. Em did though, and it looked really cool cuz his letter was actually the song and it was from his point of view so it made me feel like I was Eminem writing the letter to my mom. Also, what kind of person makes a song called "Dear Mama" and doesn't even have a real letter in the music video? Smh
