Do you guys count Pusha/Clipse as southern rap? I've always pooled them in with the south, even if their music is a lot different than what people think of as "traditional" southern rap. People dispute whether Virginia itself is truly the south.

Their brand is hard to really categorize now that I think about it. But hip-hop moved past that ideal of geography defining your sound, look at A$AP Rocky. I'm on that same boat nonetheless they always felt like a Southern act, geography notwithstanding.

It's hard for me to come up with a list, but if I were to do so, Big KRIT would definitely be on it.

Trap in its most literal definition. What's more dirty south than coke raps?

most sub-genres are defined by production above all else and the clipse had the neptunes. i don't know if there's a single beat i'd consider trap on either of their classics.

When T.I. coined the phrase he didn't have that in mind.
So by "essentially trap" I just meant it's d--- dealing music.
I should have clarified. I agree with what you're saying.

    Put some 808s on Grindin?

Good point, but I think there's a clear line from the Mafioso that Kool G spurred.
