It can be the best verse in the world, but if the music behind it is unlistenable; the verse becomes irrelevant

Personally I care about the vibe of a song and the overall production first and foremost and then the actual rap and message second.
The only reason people like a song like Hot n----- is cause the production turns up so no one cares that the bars are s---. Good production can still make a good song out of bad bars but terrible production over any rap no matter how good it is, ruins the entire song.

Another component is melody. I don't give 2 s----s about what they're saying, it just sounds good:

"When I'm in the mood for rap I need barz" it's not like that. What about character or charisma or delivery or wit, or the music, the beat switches, the bass? This s--- doesn't happen with other kinds of music. Every aspect is important as long as it works and sounds good. It's idiotic to make this distinction imo. It's like saying "do you listen to rock for the vocals or the music" lol
there are many things that can make something unlistenable

A song has to sound good to me. Horrible lyrics can bring a song down but it depends on what it is supposed to do as well. A song like Ride Out is not meant as a lyrical masterpiece, it's an anthem (in this case for Fast/Furious 7) and it sounds great: delivery from the rap/singing, melody, beat >FlawlessT, Peter Parker and Mike Tyson like this. -
