Everyone knows whats going on dude. Why do you think Drake, J Cole, and other huge artists haven't dropped. Where's Adele at? her album was supposed to come out last fall according to a ton of sources and s---.

Most artists make miniscule money off streaming + sales. It's all about touring revenue and they are timing the new release to tours at the end of this year. This summer will be full of music if people are adequately vaccinated enough so that full scale tours can happen. Kendrick was scheduled to headline a ton of festivals last year, he was def gonna drop something if COVID never hit.

While this is a creative business, it's still a business.

The only artists dropping large albums right now are Taylor Swift (one of the only artists who can really make money off of sales + streaming), Eminem (someone who doesn't tour anymore anyways), Ariana Grande (tbh I don't know her motive here, maybe just thought she could capitalize on being one of the only major artists dropping albums), and up and comers looking to develop a bigger fan base before they tour at the end of the year (Jack Harlow, Lil Baby).

Look at the top songs on Billboard 100, many of them have been there for a year plus.

I’m not saying any of it is inherently bad, it’s not. GKMC is a brilliant record, arguably a classic but to say that some of the production choices aren’t becoming dated & will become more so at a faster rate than others would be an understatement. It’s simply depreciated in areas, which tends to happen when attempting commercial appeal. Context is important here too though, he’d just signed to Aftermath/Interscope, he was on the big stage for the 1st time, commercial sound was almost dare I say, necessary. Luckily he managed to sworn off their plans to add Lady Gaga to the mix for example. But the writing has never lost its level of quality & I don’t think ever will. Songs like Sing About Me will be discussed & held in high regard for decades I have no doubt.

d---. is different, some of the cuts on there are blatant conforming radio attempts like Humble & Loyalty, from production choices to flow, to writing. They lack the depth we’ve come to experience & appreciate from a Kendrick record & 3/4 years on, have already lost most of their appeal to me & others alike.

Surely you can see the angle I’m attempting to convey here?

It's not even possible to constantly listen to all albums u think are great. I mean except if u only listen to 2 artist lol

But if u check out new music, listen to loosies etc where would you find the time to listen to the 50, 100, 200, even more (?) albums you love ?

Keem is honestly the future lol, as a fan shouldn’t you be able to see past the present appeal? Kendricks music is timeless Bc he made music and that would sound fresh even a couple years later.

Apart of Kendrick’s success is his judgment, even when critics and fans are harping on him

For one his sound is not my thing at all so that’s on a selfish level, but also I think Kendrick is capable of timeless, groundbreaking, genre-defining music/projects & Keem isn’t trying to be all that. So, unless Kendrick can incorporate it in a non-conventional way, or a way I’m incapable of envisioning, then I’m good.
