Sep 11, 2020Anyone here actually collect music? I know some of you do, so let’s talk about what we have and recent pickups!
Personally, I like collecting things and records are the best thing to collect. For me it gives me more incentive to listen to an album because I paid for it. Also makes it more of an experience because you’re putting it on and listening as opposed to passively letting Spotify play. Let’s gooo
I have some cds too and have been considering getting more into them because why not? You can find gold at thrift stores for 99cents a piece

picked these up today. Had no idea clones was released on vinyl and also I don’t think I ever listened to it front to back so I said why not? Basically bought it off the strength of Frontin alone.
Second one is Like A Ship by Pastor TL Barrett who is probably most famous for being sampled on FSMH. As a non religious guy this gospel album goes. I’d recommend checking out the title track

Definitely collected tons of CDs over the years. But CDs and the record store are pretty much dead so I don’t collect as much as I used to. Own a few signed albums as well. My favorite ones being Illmatic signed by Nas and most of my g--- Starr albums signed by Premo.
September 4th marked 10 years since Fat Beats NY closed down. I was there that day, it was a send off and a half. It’s where I got my g--- Starr stuff signed. Once Fat Beats closed down (as well as my local spots Coconuts and The Wiz closed down), it was pretty much the end. Other Music was another decent spot in the East Village. Tower Records Lincoln Center, J&R near the WTC. One by one they all started closing down. The last stand was FYE in Ridgewood, Queens. That was the last store that had the classic record store feel (that was also the same FYE where Big Sean got hit by a fan). That FYE closed down in early 2019 I believe. Rough Trade in Brooklyn is cool but it’s way too far and it’s really more of a hipster vinyl hangout spot than a record store.Last edited: Sep 11, 2020Ordinary Joel, lil uzi vert stan, Jeans and 2 others like this. -

I used to. Collected all the CDs. My proudest item was a real physical copy of the Ice Cube - k--- at Will EP. It took me YEARS to find that.
Used to have a huge DVD/Blu Ray collection as well. Sold them all when I got married though 9 years ago to help fund the wedding.
Sold all of my CDs as well a few years ago as they were just collecting dust. Sold them on MusicMagpie (a site that just offers you pennies on th scan of a barcode). I got £5+ for Pharoah Month Internal Affairs. Thought it was weird at the time why I got so much for it but didn't think much more of it. After I sent it I done some research and it turns out the original album was pulled because of a successful copywrite claim. It sells on eBay for $100+.
It's not a complete loss though, for some unknown reason I own 2 copies of the album and on that site I can only sell one of them at a time. So kept the second one.Ordinary Joel, Ricky, Jeans and 1 other person like this. -

The only thing I won't get rid of is small memorabilia from holidays. I buy a pack of playing cards from every country/city I've been to. But that doesn't exactly take up a lot of to like 500+ CDs and DVDs did!Ordinary Joel, lil uzi vert stan and JulnHT like this.
