Aug 22, 2019 Theres a huge difference in how beats, and track stems are mixed now than they were back in 02. from all the articles ive read, (Main one being an interview of mike strange on how they record at eiffgy) EM mixes his own vocals as he records them to the beat how the beat is, until he gets them as closely as he can get them to where he wants then they lay the track stems out across the board and mike and joe go in on the track stems of the beat, then once their done they say EM comes in and tweaks it or f---s with for a bit, unless they have louis actually do a live instrument dub of something to give the beat a more lively sound. But from how they talk, he doesn't f--- with the mixing of the beat that much anymore, hes really focused on the vocal, and he mixes that first so they can mix the beat around how he wanted the mix of his vocals to sound. https://www.soundonsound.com/people/mike-strange-jr-eminem-recovery its a pretty good read if youre interested in engineering. they still do a lot of things with analog equipment which is cool IMO. so instead of just buying the plug in for protools they'll get the actual analog box of it and use it that way. which is funny cause you can get the same plug in on pro tools, route the effect to an AUX track and automate record it to when it comes in and out over the vocal but I guess having the box is more, intimate? (pause, weird word to use) but I do think a lot of it isn't really dre, or EM bc now beats get sent to him, its not dre producing it and engineering it. so each producer mixes their beats differently. ILLA might send him something and eq a drum in a way EM would like but PHresher might not like, its a whole lote of moving parts, and different peoples touches and methods before it reaches its final stage.

I think an issue with rick, dj Khalil and them is that theres a obvious rock influence in those beats they give EM, and the mixing on drums and distortion on guitars really clashes with how EM will mix his vocals for a hip hop song. its too much of a styles clash sonically I think

Aug 22, 2019 Yes I agree. Definitely some crazy underrated wordplay/bars in these songs. Revival as a whole was his most lyrically complex album, and his deepest once you peel back the layers. Makes TPAB look like child’s play.

Aug 22, 2019 Encore has some very very embarrassing songs and some good ones - average Relapse is a 40 year old man playing a serial killer r--ist w a s-----y accent. Because it has great beats and a few classic songs I say average Recovery was ok because it had some dope personal songs like gtc, ttms but also some boring cringy songs like not afraid and ltwyl.. on fire and cinderella man were also filled w cringe bars (I like CM tho) Mmlp2 - good album imo but also some very cringe worthy stuff like stronger than I was Revival- wow, believe, castle, rose. Rest is mostly garbage or very average. I didn't mention the devils night etc because they happened before Encore. I was talking about after he kinda fell off for the 1st time. Shady xv I don't even know what songs are on that lol
Aug 22, 2019 I'm just not a fan of the super technical and agressive flow he uses. Welcome to h--- is impressive but not a song I'd listen to. Fast Lane is dope especially the chorus. Reunion - meh, and Royce ugh Above the Law - again not liking the delivery here. Not bad I guess tho I'm on everything - ugh A kiss - not bad ngl Lighters - top 5 worst song he ever made Take from me - i like it Maybe terrible is a bit overselling it but I don't like it at all unfortunatelly.. then they made Raw and All I Think About.. ugh. Their recent songs Caterpillar and Not Alike are dope btw
