Depends if we're talking about personal album quality or general status, 'cause I mean Ye wasn't good but he still absolutely dominated this year. The producing five albums in five weeks thing was huge, especially considering one of those albums is the most acclaimed project of the year and another was the first Nas release for six years. Add that to his continued media and news presence, and the success of songs like I Love It and it's hard to deny 2018 being his year.Ordinary Joel, Jay Zeus, Xmipod and 4 others like this. -

I don’t know how else you would describe that album. Songs like “1985” can be summed up as “stop doing drugs, you’re a role model!” & “haha you’re not real rap, you’re gonna phase out.”
Cole wants to be Kendrick/Jay-Z so bad but doesn’t have the accolades or discography to back up that kind reputation. That’s why I just roll my eyes whenever he dives into these super cocky, “I’m better than you/I’m one of the best/imma son you” raps. Dude use to be cool when he took advantage of his cross over appeal (“lights please,” “can I live,” “i get up,” “dreams,” “work out” etc!). Now he’s morphed into some ultra hip-hop head/backpack rapper who tries so hard to please the “real hip-hop” fan base. I entirely blame Nas for this. He ruined J Cole.Ordinary Joel, Winter and Jay Zeus like this. -
