    Okay I understand preferring MATW over AEOM...but saying AEOM isn't that good compared to MATW?

    @Charlie Work @Koolo

    there’s no doubt eminem was a more consequential pop culture figure. there’s also no doubt nelly was more consequential to the course of popular rap in the early- and mid-2000s.

    please ban charlie for 30 days for referring to st. louis as the south

    More so than Outkast? Lil Wayne? Tupac? Art of Peer Pressure is pretty clearly referential to Murder Murder imo. And stuff like the awful part of that control verse where he's just cramming syllables and internals. I just said he wasn't the most essential part of the puzzle.

    It's beneath the Mason Dixon line, nerd.

    Well, it might sit on it. I just know it has southern cultural traits like St. Lous style ribs and drinking out of mason jars and stuff tbh. "Country Grammar"

    It's absolutely insane how big Nelly was. I tend to forget that because he's kinda faded out of popular consciousness even though he was one of the first rappers I got into (along with Eminem, which I think makes a good anecdotal point about their cultural significance at the time).

    the fact that st. louis is the midwest (as opposed to the south) is literally central to the city’s identity lol

    i would say kendrick’s biggest influences are:

    em, wayne, outkast

    then kurupt

    then nas and tupac

    What's the criteria of a classic album for you? Name some you regard as classics? Are there any albums that often get the classic stamp in the genre that you don't like? Just interested because I know you're a huge Hip-Hop fan and have listened to the genre for like a hundred years or something

    Yep. Too bad most people only know him from Ridin. Ultimate Victory is a great album. Everything he did with Color Changin Click and his two albums with Paul Wall were dope.

    Ironman
    Supreme Clientele

    Supreme Clientele might be the most accessible of those, if your'e not a Wu fan, but they're all pretty much certified classics. Plus, you can still hear RZA's influence on production today
