I do notice a change after he released NWTS.
Before NWTS, he was this hip-hop fan who just wanted to live the life of being an artist on a caliber of Kanye West never getting too big or too small. I could tell because much of his music wasn't overt in it's commercial ambitions.
After NWTS however, he started to supplant himself and his business strategy everywhere. Nowadays everyone has a fashion line, everyone focuses on melody and sounding a "specific style" and a Drake record has excessive posturing and braggadocio with some emotion for the ladies but with none of the "honesty" if you get my drift...
NWTS I believe is the transitional stage between hip-hop Drake/pop Drake. It had some stuff you'd hear on IYRTITL but it also had some Take Care stuff as well and after NWTS he simply became Diddy and took control of the direction of hip-hop.
While I admire the variety we have today. I miss the small scale in which you had the big artists, the hopefuls and of course, the hidden gems that have been in the game for so long that you'd be surprised yourself.Groovy Tony, Koke and SleepyGhost like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -
