Jul 17, 2017 I agree that they don't mumble but for the uninitiated, they usually cite Future as a "mumble rapper"
Jul 17, 2017 in this context, it's a good comparison. in both the voice is an instrument that contributes greatly to the sound of the music rly also, again, this is bs. it's music. it should sound good, and as I already addressed, a persons voice absolutely comes into play with how the music sounds, whether they be rapping or singing. it's irrelevant, it still matters what they sound like. and don't act like you or plenty of others on here have never shunned a rapper over how they sound. that's simply bs how you've been defending the sound of vocals this entire time now, and remember: you don't just get to conveniently apply this only where it suits your argument and then retract it when it doesn't so it sounded bad ok but then rappers sounding like they have downs or something, that's totally fine? that for reasons unexplained it's totally different and therefore excusable got it literally the point ive been making a lot of s--- like kodak is bad because of this. he can't flow, he has meh rhythm, can't enunciate worth a s---, sounds like he's too leaned out and can't talk through his grills, and he's not writing anything noteworthy either also, there's so much garbage filler in the verses (which are delivered at a snails pace compared to a lot of other rap so as to fill up as much time as possible) and constant adlibs in place of content... yet all of that... it's a.o.k.? this all reminds me of like kreayshawn and crew. they were laughably bad aside from a handful of tracks for the same reasons, and they were properly s--- on because of it and their hype died off as it should've yet the same is in full effect here and being praised. i don't get it. also, i see people defend a lot of the lyrics when the vocals are brought up, as a sort fallback defense of "well it's not all bad! they're great lyricists", yet they drop verses like super hot fire, but forget the part where that was a parody of s-----y rap lyrics and not actually for real
Jul 17, 2017 i wouldn't classify future as mumble really i'd liken him to more just a flat out singer most of the time
Jul 17, 2017 if you can't get down to No Flockin, Red Opps or 1 Night then your a p---- virgin that has no irl homies
Jul 17, 2017 meh ive always thought people see future as the "autotube garbage lmao" not a mumble rapper
Jul 17, 2017 Anyone that has a catalog of raps and intentionally makes their music unintelligible is mumble rapping.
Jul 17, 2017 It's hard to take some of these arguments seriously because when people give their reasons for liking trap music, it's usually because it's "new" or "relevant" or "pushing the boundaries" or everything else is "cringe" or "embarrassing" or "virgin" or "old". Only a few people in here have bothered to explain why they like it musically. Gives the impression you only like it because it's cool rn. Either way, there's nothing wrong with liking lyrical music for it's thought-provoking content and there's nothing wrong with liking trap for it's vibe. Just be honest about it.
Jul 17, 2017 Because you guys have prior knowledge and are fans of Future so you can see through that thinly veiled pigeon holing of Future as a mumble rapper. For those who are uninitiated, don't care about Future, they usually cast him off as a mumble rapper ignorantly. I've seen it too many times tbh.
Jul 17, 2017 bruh have you heard pluto at all, much harder to make out lyrics on that album than any yachty song. Maybe y'all need your ears checked
Jul 17, 2017 Just to clear the air, I'm 31 years old and I have no problem with what new artist are doing. I have my preferences, but id argue I listen to more styles of hip hop/rap than anyone in here. I love music, but I love understanding music even more.
Jul 17, 2017 by that definition id say -21 boring c---- -half that pouya r----- s--- -young cough medicine - trap has more thought provoking content than lyrical music though.
Jul 17, 2017 as much as i think "mumble rap" is a thing in a sense this is a BIG issue with the term it tends to apply differently depending on who's saying it, is thrown around too much, and includes/excludes a wide range of things that don't often match up properly and varies from person to person, and are actually other things (see: future)
