Jan 20, 2016 Thanks for that might check it out then, sounds like thye cut some interesting things out
Jan 20, 2016 By the way if you buy this at Best Buy you get a free Straight Outta Compton shirt. Target has the exclusive Steelbook version (and yes it is the director's cut), and Walmart has a version with an additional 30 minutes of bonus features. Kinda pisses me off that you can't get all if these in ONE VERSION but that's how they get you. Try to get you to buy multiple copies.
Jan 20, 2016 Really really enjoyed this movie. Thought they played their roles brilliantly. When E was coughing and getting sick and everyone was like "E you alright? " d---....
Jan 21, 2016 Totally agree. The cast was brilliant and Eazy's death scene is heartbreaking. Can't help but tear up every time I see it.
Jan 21, 2016 Yeah I new all that. Wish it would have happened. Rumor has it the might have a NWA reunion at coachella.... With any luck we will get a new track?
Jan 21, 2016 I heard there was gonna be an NWA reunion tour with Eminem and Kendrick as the opening acts. Highly doubt it though. A one time appearance at Coachella sounds much more believable. Would be dope.
Jan 25, 2016 Film was decent. Cube's son and the dude who played Eazy had the best performances. Although, I think this film works best for people who don't know much about NWA. It's a good introduction to the group. NWA fans pretty much know about most of this stuff. I do like the brief cameos in the film though. Non-NWA fans will probably write them off but it's interesting to see Sir Jinx, Public Enemy, Warren G, The D.O.C. in the movie. Even the group HBO (which I was a little bit aware of from reading Brian Coleman's books) makes a cameo. I thought the 2Pac scene was a bit rushed though. Also, I think the film did try to portray Dre and Cube in the best possible light. They glossed over the Dee Barnes incident although I heard that they wanted to expand on that in the film but ultimately chose not to. Also, Dre released a lot of Eazy disses. The "No Vaseline" scene was great but there was also a lot of beef between Dre and Eazy that they could have touched on. As far as Snoop's portrayal- honestly the actor playing him looked more like Kurupt than Snoop. They could have done better with that role. Overall, it was an entertaining film and I look forward to more films like these that shed light on the pioneers of Rap.
Jan 29, 2016 Totally agree with everything you said. I'm guessing they didn't touch on the Eazy-Dre beef because the movie was so long as is, but maybe they could've put it in the director's cut. And yea my only complaint about the casting the Snoop character. Didn't look or sound anything like him imo. Ren's character didn't look like him either. It was like they said "well we just need a dark skinned black guy to play him" Everyone else was surprisingly well cast. Alot of the characters (Dre, Eazy, Cube, Yella) even had voices that sounded like the real people.
Feb 3, 2016 Saw this 2 days ago. Great movie. Agree with Tone that it helps a lot if you're into this/knew about it before. The way it ended really makes me think and hope we'll get a sequel. Maybe Aftermath and the East vs West beef? Would also like to see a movie about New York with Big/Nas/Jay etc. This also got me revisiting their music, as a group and individually, still sounds great till this day.
