Aug 15, 2015 Finally saw this tonight and all I can say is wow! This was the best movie I've seen in theaters in a long time. One of the greatest music/biopic movies of all-time. It's right there with 8 Mile imo. The casting and actors in this were amazing! Ice Cube's son deserves an Oscar for his portrayal of his father. Eazy-E was probably my favorite character though. His death I'm the movie was heartbreaking. I couldn't even imagine being in his shoes when the doctor gave him the news. Overall this movie was like a history lesson in rap. I learned a few things I didn't know before. Like how Ice Cube was the primary song writer of NWA. I've never been a big fan of him but I gained a TON of respect for him after watching this movie. I also didn't know NWA was just getting back together and about to record a reunion album when Eazy passed. It's a shame to think what could've been. My only complaint about this movie was the portrayal of Snoop. Every other casting decision was great but I just didn't get this one. The guy playing him didn't look or sound anything like him. But he only had a small part in the movie so it's not a big deal. As of right now I say this movie is amazing and I can't recommend it enough. 9/10.
Aug 15, 2015 I also wish they would've went a little further into Snoop's back story. The real story is that Warren G was Snoop's best friend in high school and Warren was also Dre's half-brother. That's how they were introduced. Would've been cool to see that in the movie. Instead it kinda looked like Snoop was just an artist that showed up in the studio one day.
Aug 15, 2015 Question: I notice after Dre and Cube left it was just Eazy with Ren and Yella, and he was trying to keep the group going. Did they ever release any material in that state with just the three of them? Did Yella ever lay any vocals? Looks like he was just the group's DJ but started producing after Dre left. This movie got me pretty interested in the group tbh. I'm gonna go back and checkout their whole discography now.
Aug 15, 2015 So I also heard, the guy who played Pac in the film is the guy who they want to do the biopic with. So in a way (if it ever gets greenlit) this is prequel to the Pac biopic. Also I gotta agree @Arch Dogg I was pleasantly surprised with the casting of the three main members of the group and I also never knew that info about Cube (especially that he wrote Friday?). It may be too early to tell but this could be a worthy Oscar contender for next year.
Aug 15, 2015 Yea the three main actors were phenomenal. Not only did they look the part but their voices SOUNDED just like their characters too. The guy that played Yella was great too. The guy who played Ren seemed like he could barely act though lol. The movie was amazing though. I told my friends as we left the theater if I had a blu ray copy on me right now I'd go home and watch it again immediately. The theater I went to was totally sold out too by the way. Bigger crowd than when I saw Avengers opening day. I think this s----s gonna do big numbers.
Aug 15, 2015 Just saw it. Dope as f---! one of my fav movies all time for sure. They did an amazing job with this. ITs a f---ing masterpiece. I loved the ending and the actors did great. Whoever played Eazy did a f---ing amazing job
Aug 15, 2015 Man watching Straight Outta Compton really taught me things I didn't know about NWA like did you know they got a warning letter from the FBI about the song f--- Tha Police? s--- is crazy
Aug 15, 2015 Same here. I'm a die hard fan and I learned a lot from watching this. I gained so much respect for each member, especially Ice Cube and Eazy.
Aug 16, 2015 I thought it was cool how they showed the LA riots in the movie and what every group member was going through at the time. Movie was so good I'm legit thinking about going to see it again this week.
Aug 17, 2015 Saw it again tonight in a more fancy theater with better sound and picture, it was awesome again lol. Got high as f--- before it. I do kinda wish they played some of Eazy's diss to Dre and Snoop 'real muthaphuckin g's', they played all of Cube's no vaseline and eazy's diss was a great song too. But oh well it was a long movie and you can't expect them to have everything. Hopefully there will be a DVD/blu ray with some extras on it. Also Spoiler although it's unlikely the ending kinda makes me think there might be a sequel starting with Dre making aftermath then eventually Em, 50 etc..who knows. it probably wouldn't be for a while if ever but I think that ending kinda made it seem as if it may be possible for another movie. Not sure how I feel about the guy who played Pac being Pac in the biopic on him if that's true.
Aug 17, 2015 hahah just watched it and its amazing nothinglesss, can someone confirm that that was Games bws member who checked that ninja on the bus "Compton Menace"?
Aug 18, 2015 I can't wait to own the blu ray of this, getting it the minute it drops. And your idea for a sequel is probably pretty unlikely, but still a cool idea nonetheless.
Aug 18, 2015 I'm pissed I saw the late night show and fell asleep during the part where Ice Cube does Are We There Yet
Aug 18, 2015 Incredible movie. Never have I ever wanted to go see a movie again immediately after I saw it in theaters. I'm already talking about seeing it again with my friends in a few days.
