Aug 8, 2015 Almost bone chilling how I'd predict Relapse would become more appreciated with time and it's come to pass. Anyways, I'll be honest the way Em went about it was probably the best route. Whenever Eminem says his music wasn't good enough to release or second guesses any of his material I'm inclined to take his word for it. Relapse: Refill was enough for me tbh.
Aug 8, 2015 I think we should let the Relapse era die and get over it. If you all liked Relapse we would've gotten Relapse 2.
Aug 8, 2015 Would've loved a Relapse 2. I think it would be interesting to see him make another Relapse now as his next album to see how it turns out at this point in his career
Aug 9, 2015 There might be other reasons why Eminem didn't release Relapse 2. I don't think that, at that time, fans didn't like it. I mean, 600k+ copies were sold in the 1st week and was the best selling album of 2009.
Aug 9, 2015 Not exactly. Refill was released by Eminem when he was working on Relapse 2. He gave the fans Refill just because Relapse 2 was supposed to release in 2009 only. But due to some reason, it was delayed. Therefore, he released Refill.
Aug 9, 2015 600k wasn't enough for Eminem, the megastar of rap, as a return album to hip hop. It got awful critic reviews and was generally considered a failure by the general populous. Relapse love as we know it only started post-Recovery.
Aug 9, 2015 I think some of the songs were leaked a long time before the album's release..that could've affected the sales. People usually don't like songs about killing, raping, and other messed up stuff present in Relapse. Also, singles like 3 AM wouldn't really appeal people very much, decreasing the sales. The album's content was messed, which gave the critics a chance to make the album look bad which they apparently did. "Relapse love as we know it only started post-Recovery." It is sorta true. When Relapse released, general public said Eminem s----d because he went too dark. But the fans have always liked the album. When Recovery released, people realized that Horror-core Eminem is better than the Eminem rapping on Poppy beats and featuring with artists like Rihana. No matter what, I will always prefer 2009 Eminem over 2010 Eminem.
Aug 9, 2015 And they didn't. At all. It was apparent in the reception. This goes back to what you said above. Yep, it was an awful choice as a single Thats iffy. The problem wasn't that he went too dark, it's that he went horror-core which offers no content at all and no one wanted to hear this from Eminem at the time-- everyone (rightfully so) wanted a real album to reassert himself into the rap game. Recovery did that. It's only after that we decided, 'ya know, now that we are here...he could've did this without selling out' basically, and the flaws in Recovery's production and pop influences became apparent.
Aug 9, 2015 I think Relapse 2 would've did sub-500k maybe even in the 300k category with awful singles
Aug 9, 2015 You really can't be so sure.. We don't know what kinda songs were in there. There could be even songs better than Relapse..we will never know
Aug 9, 2015 Even though i liked recovery more than relapse i think in the long run relapse 2 would have been better for his career and a better album than relapse 1 was. Recovery forced him into his pop hook and awful s-----y metaphor phase with bad production that still carries into his recent music.
Aug 9, 2015 They recorded 100s of songs during the Relapse sessions and Relapse 2 was him being even more f----- up than the first there's a MTV interview confirming this EDIT
Aug 9, 2015 Would've been cool if we got Relapse 2 in Fall 2009 as planned (scrap Refill) then Recovery in Summer 2010. The more material the better. And I remember them saying they saved the better songs for Relapse 2.
Aug 9, 2015 I don't care for Relapse much anymore, so I'm glad things changed the way that they did. Though it would be cool if some of the songs on there would leak.
