Apr 18, 2016 I think the r--- charge was down played the moment it was confirmed there were three different dude's semen inside of her. Also, Kobe is top 3 behind only Jordan but.... Even then he was more skilled than MJ. Edit- As far as this thread goes LOL at anybody with Eminem in their top 10. 4 great years and 13 average to horrendous years. Come on.
Apr 18, 2016 dude goes off beat often (dont try and tell me "but thats his style!!!1") and u can tell he's reading off paper most of the time. plus hes hd the same flow for like 15 years. never heard him adapt his flow to a beat always that same s---
Apr 18, 2016 4 great years is more than biggie had tho? its an interesting question -- especially if you don't subscribe eminem's peak years as being dated/overrated (i dont). i know he has certainly embarrassed himself/his legacy but i think there's a case to be made hes one of the greats nevertheless, especially if u arent too inside baseball about it. all of them have blemishes depending on ur criteria and yeah, i dunno. i know u played pro ball so interested in ur perspective but from what i remember there was alot of outstanding evidence. slippery slope obviously
Apr 18, 2016 Yeah it's kind of tricky ranking Eminem because 99-03 was pretty flawless in my opinion and in 2010 I'd probably still have ranked him in the top 10 based of those years but with each new/awful song or verse he puts out it just makes it harder and harder for me to put him in there. The guy doesn't give a f--- about his craft and I literally cannot think of a more talented underachiever in any profession. If music was a sports league the guy would have been cut and out of the league in 2004 lol. I see what you're saying but I don't like the Biggie/Pac comparisons because although their runs were just as short it was for entirely different reasons. I'm biased, though. I think Eminem is a piece of s---. Rapping aside I hate the man. All the God given talent in the world and he just pissed it away out of sheer laziness or not taking it seriously. Like I said he's the ultimate underachiever and I despise people like him so maybe that clouds my perception of him.
Apr 18, 2016 Right, biggie/pac is apples to oranges for obvious reasons. You bringing up sports league is partly my point though -- Sandy Koufax pitched in the majors 12 years. 7 seasons were average/mediocre, one was good... and four was absolutely incredible. Sound familiar? It's also not an exact comparison but I think there's something to be said for these kinds of runs. haha, no argument about the rest of your post though.
Apr 18, 2016 Also as far as the Kobe thing goes I'm not saying he's a good person. He's not. He's a bad guy lol. At best he committed adultery which I think is one of the most despicable things someone can do. I just think that in his case it was a crazed, money hungry whor- who wanted fame/money. I'm just hope the r--- stuff is left out of his legacy. Jordan had his gambling problem(which some think most likely resulted in his father's murder as well as his two year "retirement"... legend has it suspending MJ for his gambling would have been too big of a black eye for the NBA so him and Stern worked out the whole baseball retirement thing) I don't even know where I'm going with that lol I guess I'm saying I don't think there's an ounce of truth to the r--- allegation and that most professional athletes are inherently bad people.
Apr 18, 2016 Not a fair comparison lol I don't know anything about baseball. I've never seen that in the NBA or NFL, though.
Apr 18, 2016 Jay electronica has way more talent than em ever has and he's literally done nothing with it
Apr 18, 2016 eminem is def not a top 10 rapper im not apologizing for that opinion its a fact. his music hasnt stood the test of time. he only has 1 album worth listening to (MMLP) and even then I'd be fine if I never heard it again in my life
Apr 18, 2016 i guess what you describe above is possible, but not likely IMO. i think rappers reach a point where they don't have it anymore. they simply can't do what they use to do. eminem invested a lot of time and effort into his craft and that's one of the main reasons he turned out so well. but letting go of something isn't easy, especially when you've been doing it most of your life. athletes often talk about how hard it is to retire. their mind is telling them they can still do it, but their body suggests other wise. what makes you think he still has it in him to produce better quality work than he has in several years.....but just doesn't do it out of "sheer laziness and not taking it seriously"?
Apr 18, 2016 that wasnt what i was saying. as u know, rappers dont have incredible shelllives (usually), so i was commenting on the idea that bc eminem had 4 good-great yrs, then 10-15 bad, that his place in history should be discounted. (edit - specifically, it was a response to length of time, not quality re: biggie to be clear) alot of his best material def gets weighed down by dated pop culture references, but i think ur underselling sslp and tes a bit. i think the kneejerk response to him having no place in the conversation even (by two white canadians, i believe, lol) to be a bit lopsided. it shouldnt be an emotional issue even -- its about how you define ur own terms
Apr 18, 2016 Yeah, you're not wrong, lol. I get the significance of both albums (and I actually threw on TES to write this comment, skimmed through SSLP on the last one) but I still stand pretty firm on that sentiment. I grew up (literally) when Eminem was releasing his first three albums and my single-parent family wasn't too heavy on censorship. I heard the music when it came out, then rediscovered it again on my own in my early teen years. Now, at 20 and having been through the music at two different ages I feel like there's nothing left to experience from them. Maybe in another 10 years I'll go back and hear them again and gain something for a third time, but for the time being im straight. ps. tes overall production (that includes eminems contribution vocally and creatively) is pretty tight. nice sounding album. same cannot be said for sslp. product of environment- album aged like raw meat.
