As the elimination thread game taught us, an album is GOAT when people hate different songs :kappa:

The Argentinian thing was unnecesary imo

But i am saying that we still have another 5 years of probably good music, i don't know if the site it's going to be alive in 2020 but we shouldn't make the list about the most essential rap albums of the decade if we just reached the first half

EDIT: Nevermind, i just noticed the "So Far" in the title.

if you remove the names from the equation this is my attitude toward hip-hop, and i think the one everyone should adopt--let each artist/album/song be what it is, don't be mad at migos for not being krs, etc etc. but for the record i think you're seriously selling future/thug/quan short by framing it this way. the rich g--- tape was more evocative and human than the blu album last year. latter was kind of an exercise in form, whereas thug and quan were baring their souls at many points on tha tour.

@captain awesome lol i don't think i'm being too condescending here. isn't "you used to like REAL rappers" ACTUALLY the high horse opinion in this context?

EDIT: ugh @Narsh is kind of doing this too. rich g--- is not a good record for parties--it is, but it's something that you can listen to in headphones in a library and enjoy just as much. it's incredibly dynamic and it's ridiculous to paint it as anything but.

I was just being nice man, didn't use it ironically. But yeah, the So Far wasn't about MMLP2

The worst song on Pinata is about twice as good as Real or Compton, man. that's all I can really say on this topic...I can definitely understand someone liking GKMC more (it had more of an impact culturally as well as just being great)

I was actually going to make a post exactly like this earlier today lol...but I know big country is just trying to get others to understand that different types of music have their own merit, so i didnt want to nitpick on his wording

but yeah, framing thugger, quan, future, etc as "party music" only is severly underselling them

Beastmode is such an intimate record. Quan makes some of the best odes to his b------s this side of Take Care, and Thugger shows more range on one song than 95% of the rappers I've ever heard.

What exactly do you think im doing? Maybe I havent been vocal about it, but im firmly on your side on this issue lol

edit: you should see the staff thread lol, i was going off at like 1 am last night, running on fumes, writing some s-----y review for TvFanatic about NCIS LA, but jamming hard to tha tour pt 1, and all the pt 2 leaks haha

if i ever had work to do, and need to instantly brighten my mood, i put thug on shuffle tbh

gkmc is better than piñata but it's really close and i'm not that mad at them being flipped.

serious question, not trying to be a d-ck: why does the intro kind of scoff at the "absurd" hype over the kendrick hype when the site gave it a 9.4? from an editorial standpoint wouldn't it look better to not contradict a recent review?

It "scoffs" at placing Kendrick on a list like this already -- and i also think you can objectively think a project is great, or amazing, or whatever, and not buy into the hype, no?

@WPG thoughts on tha tour 2 leaks? Some of them were so promising man

Never Made Love, Should I, Aint Trippin, Up Up and Away, Aye, Roll it, etc -- had the potential to be as good as, if not better, than pt 1 imo

it's a matter of degree. i think late registration is probably a classic, but i don't think it's a top-ten album of all time. i think it's tough to remove yourself from the din of 9.5-10.0 reviews when you published one.

not a bad thing, just an honest question.

there are a lot of good records. some (mac miller, joey badass, cole, nothing was the same, death grips, the f---ing roots) obviously aren't as good as the rest, some others (take care, watch the throne) i would probably cut, but i get why they're there. you touched on a lot of great work.

some albums that, in my opinion, were sadly overlooked. cc @BigCountry i'd love to hear you and narsh explain why some of these were left off, just out of curiosity:

dark comedy, again. dead horse, but it very obviously belongs here

either of the ka albums--i think that new york renaissance led by 35+ y/o rappers needs to be represented, no?

    on that note, marcberg. c'mon.

    no kevin gates albums?

aesop rock's skelethon is pretty undeniable.

i think you guys picked the wrong future record but it's honestly splitting hairs, he's great and i'm glad he's represented. would have been stoked to see black up in here too, but it didn't make my top 25, either.

    SOTD

but for real tho, i honestly think there are many many many thug songs as good as Flava. It's hard to explain. the hook is one of his best for sure tho

Blanguage might be thugger's best song to date tho

tough to gauge it against the original, because part 1's strength was that it's absurdly consistent for such a long record. but yeah, lots of those songs are brilliant.

hah well to be fair, i think you had initially commented on him having a flagrantly, absurdly stupid opinion (word choice mine)

also, can we talk about overusing the adjective brilliant
