Cant really go too deep into a review rn unfortunatly as this album deserves it.

Very underrated album. 9/10 IMO. As people have stated this is the best version of Detox that we would have ever gotten

Not as great as his past releases but still a great album with a blend of old elements that made it great with a more modern sound. 8/10

When I first listened to this album, the every song was sooo fresh that I was in love with it. Production was really unique to me. It wasn't your average trap s--- ( even though I love trap beats a lot, it's overwhelming to hear nothing but trap beats in modern day hip hop so whenever I hear different hip hop beats it catches my attention eventually) Anyway, I have been a fan of Anderson Paak's sound since the beginning and even though the album lost its' replay value quicker than I expected, I still think it was good. I'd give it a 7/10. Bubblin' should have been on that album tho but I can see why he prefer to leave it out.

    5.5/10

Too inconsistent and doesn't really have any replay value in comparison to Malibu. Beat selection is a mixed bag, and the vibe just isn't really there. Seems to have an identity crisis in it's music. Pretty disappointing.

Note that I'm not taking the features into consideration, if that were so, it may be a 6 at worst.

Anyone that still uses the word 'dust' or 'dustheads' are only making fun of themselves. Same goes for dissing all newer artists btw.

This album is a perfect example of an album with an old school vibe, yet still sounds fresh 15 years later. I can see the Piñata comparison. Nice samples, lots of fun and an essential listen for rap fans. Can't really add anything that hasn't been said before. 10/10

I think the reason I prefer MM.. Food is because it captures this feel even better than Madvillainy. Like a stitched together audio comic

    10/10

This s--- is amazing, ran through this the other day coincidentally, I'm still forever fascinating at how unique the experience of listening to Madvillainy. It's cartoonish like if you're reading a comic in audio form, it flows effortlessly from start to finish and both DOOM & Madlib were born to work with each other. Madlib's absurd ear for unusual samples and drums put DOOM in inspired form; there's a rainstorm of aphorisms, imagery and a whole bunch of other s--- that I have no idea what he rambles about but it sounds so g.d. cool!

Stones Throw cemented their legacy with this & Donuts, I can't stress how important this album was for an entire generation of underground and in general that whole Adult Swim sub-culture that bubbled around this time. Madvillainy still sounds so timeless and it's one of those rare records that does deserve a listen to any burgeoning fan of rap.
