Hate to say it, but it's Eminem, and it's not even close either.
And that's to any rapper's popularity. He was in a class of his own from 00-02.BART, Guma, M Solo and 1 other person like this. -

Then you KNOW exactly how big Eminem was from 2000-2002. That type of popularity will never be duplicated by anybody much less Drake.Fitzy, Michael Myers, froboy6942 and 1 other person like this. -

This is a f---ing stupid argument/ comparison, and take that from someone who was old enough to remember.
Drake is undeniably popular, but it's not even close. This is a new era. We didn't have twitter/facebook back then. And em was shifting millions upon million of physical units before I-tunes even existed.
50 cent had a 2 album streak. That's it. I love 50 but his name neither drakes should even be talked about if your tryna compare their popularity to the white boy.
You could even argue that even now when em isn't exactly in his prime.... Em is STILL more popular than drake. I personally think this is the case. You Americans man, you are 1 track minded, you forget that the rest of the world actually exists. EM has been a global megastar for a long f---ing time now. I'm not saying drakes not popular on a global scale, but my dude..... em is a f---ing ICON of our times to a lot of people in a lot of places that I doubt you've even heard of before.
We will see when the numbers come out after 1st week sales when em drops. He will outsell drake. at 44 years old. So how can we have a conversation about who was more popular em (IN HIS PRIME) or drake now? It makes no sense because em is still more popular than drake, even now!! lol.
Put it this way;
My Grandmother knows who Eminem is. She doesn't have a f---ing clue who drake is.Guma, froboy6942, Macca and 1 other person like this. -

The Real slim Shady charted on the Billboard Alternatives chart at 19, which is the rock and roll chart. As far as I know, Drake has never charted on rock and roll stations.Last edited: Mar 23, 2017jmode10, Guma, Macca and 1 other person like this. -

This thread is hilarious considering Eminem is going to do minimum of 1 million in the first week in 2017, quote me on that. Numbers are the most concrete reflection of popularity, nobody in hip hop has, had, or will have better numbers than Em.asvdawg, Macca, Pinocchio and 1 other person like this. -

Eminem wasn't popular on the radio cause of his content, hence his poppy first singles. Streams count towards sales, that combined with Drake's "safe" content for radio makes him way more accessible and popular on the radio. It's not really that great of an argument. Drake probably does have more Hot 100 hits, and that's cause fans are more in control than ever before.
It's the only thing Drake has on Eminem in terms of popularity. He was more popular all over the world (literally worldwide) whereas Drake has the US, Canada, UK and other parts of Europe.
I haven't cared for Eminem in years but you can't take that away from him.Fearless, asvdawg, Guma and 1 other person like this. -
