Has there been any hinted release date for thie yet? Feels like a long time, since listener to a good rap album. Almost feel maybe a June/summer release.Especially if some summer vibe tracks on it.

I feel this was originally meant to be released by now. But criticism from his recent music made them rework iceman. I’m glad because I didn’t want a lazy, cash grab album. Feel he’ll finally feel hungry this album. Most hyped drake album, since views for me.

There’s no real release date rumored or hinted at from what I’ve seen. It’s just been numerous vague teases that have led to nothing. It seems they have no idea what to do with this album so it keeps getting pushed back. People are hoping for a summer release but who knows when it will come out at this point. By July 4 it’ll already be a year since “What Did I Miss?” came out.

Honestly, who cares at this point? Drake hasn’t made good music since 2015 and got destroyed so badly by Kendrick that we’re approaching the two year anniversary of this unprecedented and unplanned “hiatus”.

What’s next? Switch genres? Maybe a country album?

Drake is now officially a legacy act.

Yeah Drake is in a weird position now. His peak is clearly over, but since none of these new age rappers are able to take the baton he still the most streamer rapper this year and last. I blame that more on the genre not having its next Kanye, Wayne, 50, ect. There are no more super stars

Completely agree. Likewise, all this buzz about a potential Future feature is completely perplexing to me. Spoiler alert: the best Drake/Future collabs of all time are readily available on your streaming platform of choice, and have been for years. Are we really anticipating this forthcoming ‘Star Wars: Episode I’ equivalent of a Drake/Future collab?

More broadly, the industry has completely failed to cultivate the next generational talent(s) in hip-hop. Yes, financial incentives are different than they were in the 90’s. Given this, I don’t blame non-musician music execs, but I DO put this squarely on the shoulders of hip-hop megastars that clearly love the craft and remain active in this space. Specifically (and in order) this failure rests most directly on Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, and Eminem’s shoulders. Jay-Z and Dr. Dre’s negligence in this regard is particularly appalling given their current positions in the industry.

Just because he's a lunatic now doesn't make his music -until the last few albums- any less amazing.

Those guys aren't even remotely close lol

Rest in peace to each of them, but not one of the three artists you mentioned was ever even close to being on a trajectory to be the next hip-hop megastar on the level of a Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, etc.

Moreover, hip-hop lost Biggie, Tupac, and Big L within three years (1996-1999). Despite these massive losses, other talented rappers quickly stepped up to fill the void and became megastars. This simply has not happened since the deaths of Juice, Pop, and Von. One can only conclude that the industry’s talent development pipeline is fundamentally broken.

XXXTENTACION and Juice WRLD were absolutely going to be hip hop’s future megastars. They were well on their way to doing so. One of the whole reasons X and Drake beefed was because Drake was afraid X was gonna take his spot. Many people thought that at the time. I know it’s been years since they died but y’all seem to be forgetting how massive these dudes were even before their deaths. There hasn’t been a single rapper that has had as dedicated of a fanbase as XXXTENTACION did since he died. I feel like you had to have been living under a rock at the time to disagree with this.
