@jankland - Kyle: An Ode To Love & Drywall

Favorites: Fatal Flaw; Self-Destruct; Common Decency; Shaylee, Shanel

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 10/10!!!

jankland is the king of this type of music, the tape achieves exactly what it sets out to do. There’s all the emo vibes, the love, the breakups, the depression, the anxiety, the angst, etc. I like pretty much every song here. The only song I had a slight issue with was “Bulls In The Bronx” by Pierce The Veil. I just didn’t like the vocalist’s tone at first, but I warmed up to it a bit by the end. That instrumental switch up also really saved the song for me.

I think this mixtape is at its best when the lyrics are saying some real s---. “Fatal Flaw” by Arm’s Length is perhaps my favorite example of real s--- in the lyrics:

    “I didn't think I'd last this long
But I proved myself wrong out of spite, I fear

    [Pre-Chorus]
So I'll apologize in advance to keep the blood from my hands
The pain was all but planned

    [Chorus]
    Look at what you've done
Do you see how far you've come?
Romanticize the past for f---ing once
You know your younger self would be so proud
But you're nothing like them now
As you cover and cut off parts of yourself
That ever felt, or made you once stand out”

If you relate to these lyrics you know how real it is. Not to mention I love how the last chorus of the song changes the first bar from “Look at what you’ve done/Do you see how far you’ve come?” to “Sit still and look at what you’ve done/Do you think you’re too far gone?”. “Self-Destruct” by Origami Angel had some nice lyrics as well.

I know this type of sound and vibe isn’t going to be for everybody. I honestly think this is a fantastic tape though. I really didn’t have any complaints besides the one that I got over by the end of the song. For that reason, I’m giving this a 10/10. @AOTWClub reviews for Wreckless and Michael Myers coming very soon

Come and meet me outside of your little safe space thread here Tonsher.

Your “mixtape” stunk of sweaty balls, cigarette butts, welfare cheques, homemade plastic bottle bongs and rotting teeth.

“distorted reality” along with that s-----y cover sounds and looks like something some edgy wanna be 14 year old teenager would create on MySpace in 2007.

Awful music taste for a man of your mature age.

I'm actually curious what type of music you like / listen to. From the em thread I get you are a fan of his earlier s---, but what else you listen to?

Bless us with a Zeb / JLG mixtape!

I would but I can’t really be bothered reviewing everyone else’s music, so wouldn’t really be fair.

    Distorted Reality

Most of the things I said about Janklands tape I can say about this one too.

It's a solid one, sticking to a theme / sound which is cool. As I said I do personally prefer diversity.

Went to a rock festival a few weeks ago, 7 hours of different cover rock bands which was cool but after a few hours I definitely needed a break lol. It also had different type of rock, from more uplifting music to depressed, to screaming s--- -which I do hate-.

The different between this tape and jankland one is that his had a little more uplifting songs and this one more dark/depressed. Which isn't good or bad, just a different sound.

The opening song and second I liked but I need to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. It's not my music in general.

Leader Of The Pack is a highlight, this is more the type of rock I like. It has more energy I guess, if that makes sense. Fine Again another one I liked a lot.

Also liked Open Your Eyes. The second Wunderhose song (Butterflies) I sadly like less than the first song.

    Through and Through also nice.

The other songs have a similar tone (to me, but I'm not a huge rock guy so people might call me crazy lol) which is more dark/depressed as I stated earlier.

Which is not a bad thing, some of the songs are really cool, but I rather listen to some of those songs followed by something else than a few in a row.

Very interesting listen @Wreckless and always good to listen to stuff other than I usually do.

    7/10 @AOTWClub
