It reminds me of the line from Stimulate:

    Constantly movin', constantly usin'
The Constitution as a form of restitution

But obviously nowhere near as good. Crazy how hard he fell off as a writer.

Foreshadowing of most content on the continent constant compliments give me confidence.

He didnt fell off because of one line in a 2006 song being less good than one line from 2002 song. You can pick a s-----y line from 2000 and compare it to a good line from 2010 and say he s----d before.

    Ok but what about

entertainment is changing, intertwining with gangstas,
In the land of the killers, a sinners mind is sanctum”

    to

    *Arabian Accent*
“Mary-Kate and Ashley used to be so handsome,
Now they’re getting older they’re starting to grow bum bums”

in the space of 2 years?

Never liked that line from sing for the moment. It feels unnatural for eminem to say something that poetic. You can hear the struggle in his delivery there.

Anyways, one is a serious song, another is a goofy one. Not something to compare.

How about "my penis is the size of a peanut, have you seen it? vs "marshall is not an egomaniac, thats not his motto, hes not a desperado, hes desperate"

And what does "in the land of the killers a sinners mind is a sanctum" even mean?

I swear to god Spatula when I wrote that SFTM lyric I was thinking “I bet Spatula responds with something like “what DoEs it Mean/It DoEsNt MAke sEnSe” and I put that on my children’s lives.

I’ve got you sussed out. You’re becoming ever so predictable.

You thought that because you dont know what the line means either so you anticipated a counter argument.

I am becoming predictable, you already are. A song after 2003? Sucks. - JLG

It’s just a typical Spatch-ism at this point. Picking at something that has always been highly regarded just for the sake of it. You did the exact same with the “pig headed” lines in No Apologies.

Plus you’re the one that just called it poetic.

I always just took the line, considering the context it is in and the song being about his flaws, legal troubles and influence on children, as him pointing out that that he’s no killer/gangster and the trouble he has been through, he needed to go through through in order to see the other side.

“in a world where people are literally killing eachother over music and other things, the bad things I’ve done myself (which doesn’t compare to killing) have actually helped me become a better person for it”

Oh and it’s a thin line between 2003. I’d probably say 02 since Love You More was the last classic song he recorded.

I dont pick at highly regarded lines for no reason. I can see flaws in "peak Eminem" just as well as see greatness in modern Eminem. I am providing a contrast to those who paint new Eminem with a wide brush "everything is bad" as opposed to flawless 2000 Eminem, when neither is true.

No artist is absolutely perfect obviously, but you’d have to pick at prime Eminem with a very fine toothcomb to find the “flaws” which is what you’ve been doing.

I've never stopped to think much about that SFTM lyric until I read this discussion. I used to assume he was referring to himself as a lesser "sinner" (as defined by his Christian critics) in a rap world of killers and gangsters, but when I think about it a general statement about this world seems more likely to me. ~ "In a degenerate entertainment world dominated by sinners of all stripes, a sinner's mind -- ie, his music -- is regarded as sacred (by himself and his fans)". So what's considered "holy" or not is a matter of individual perspective, ie subjective.

It reminds me of another poetic lyric from Stimulate. The message is in a similar vein, but here he seems to be saying not just that morality is subjective, but that all people, including himself, are hypocritical scum (or "sinners"):

It hurts but your jealousy probably tears you up inside as much
And it's such a pleasure, every button that I touch
I treasure every glutton that I punish in my lust

The first moment I noticed something was off was his verse on Love Me and he followed right up with Don't Push Me(also terrible)

Even though he release some incredible stuff in 2003(PW, Lady) our boy was cooked by late 2002.

After 2002 we don't really have a real timeline of what was recorded when. We know the Slim Shady LP was recorded in 1998 so even till the Eminem Show that's 4 albums of material if you include Devil's Night and then we have the 8 Mile soundtrack, the 50 stuff, a ton of tracks for Obie's album not to mention the mixtapes. He literally did not stop writing and recording of course it was going to take its toll.

There is something peculiar about realizing, for example, SSLP was recorded in 1998 when I associate it wih 1999. As if there is a time shift.

The only way I know how to anchor a year to events is by Eminem album releases. If there are no releases that year, I am temporally confused.

For example, I know I went somewhere in 2009 because that was when Relapse was released.

I have no precise way of knowing something happened in 2016.

    SSLP recorded in 97/98.

MMLP recorded in 1999. (Some early 2000 like TWIA and TRSS)

TES recorded mostly in 2001. Some in 2002.

8 Mile OST recorded in 2002.

Encore recorded in 2004. (Like Toy Soldiers done late 2003)

    Relapse recorded in 2008.
