I guess Never forget ya belongs to post-TES era because of drums and song structure.

When it comes to King Gordy album, eminem gives to king gordy a beat cd and tell him to pick some of them. I guess those were songs produced by Jeff Bass and Luis Resto for Eminem. Thats why in booklet it says produced by FBT in association with Eminem.

No Jeff Bass in 8 Mile Ost except of lose yourself becuase thats when they were not working together anymore. But lose yourself was so f---ing great to leave behind. Same as "beautiful".

The king Gordy “beat cd” also features Em on drums tho (on the bass/resto beats), so had to have been after DJ head, which is after TES.

It sounds like Jeff on drums. Eminem's drum patterns are so easy to recognize. If you listen to FBT beats on slim shady lp you will realise what i mean.

I haven’t really bumped Encore in a long a--- time, but I know he still recorded in 54 sound (Jeff’s studio, or at least the one he worked in). Steve King did some instruments throughout Encore outside of mixing (which he did for TES), and he did a pretty good job at tackling Bass’ sound for the soundtrack songs he did, 8 mile and love me. Or did he also not work on encore either?
I also know he did stuff on no apologies, but haven’t seen what he did. What’d Steve do for it?

Steve was Eminems main recording and mixing engineer from TES up until Re-Up (I think, he definitely did TES and Encore). He mixed half of MMLP and mastered SSEP.

Jeff Bass said in an interview that whenever he worked on Eminem records, he would only play his parts on whatever instrument he was playing for the song, and after his parts were played he wouldn’t be involved after that, it would be left to the mix engineers, which would usually be Steve King and his assistant Mike Strange I believe.

For example on Lose Yourself, Jeff Bass originally had played the piano intro and the guitar loop in the key of C, and King later shifted it all up a key to D. Bass hadn’t played the piano intro specifically for the song either, it was just something he had messed around with in the studio and it was King who decided to add it to the start of Lose Yourself.

Another example is Jeff Bass also said he wasn’t happy about what Mike Strange did to his guitar tone for Beautiful. He said he originally had a really nice sound to it and that Mike added some fuzz effect that he didn’t like and sounded kind of muddy in the mix (I’m paraphrasing here).

Steve King said in an interview once that much of Encore was just Him, Luis Resto and Eminem on a drum machine jamming in the studio which would then lead to songs being created. I think we can actually see this in the studio footage of them during D12 world era, and there’s also some footage of when they had just created the “Armageddon freestyle” beat.

Does Bass have a credit for Love Me? I didn’t know he did, would have to check that. I don’t think he’s credited on 8 mile road either is he? In terms of No Apologies I think King probably just tracked the vocals and instruments and then mixed the song.

I should’ve been clearer, but those were the 8 mile songs where Steve King did instruments on (specifically the guitars at least) and not just the mixing. I did check no apologies, and *apparently* Steve did the bass (thought it was Luis since it was a keyboard bass) and a guitar(?, I didn’t know there was a guitar and I’m pretty sure everyone else, including Steve, didn’t know either). Re-Up’s specific personnels are much harder to find and confirm though, so don’t take my word for it.

Where did you find the credits for No Apologies? I usually use rateyourmusic but for No Apologies it only shows Eminem and Resto.

edit: just realised discog show the full credits.

I also assumed it was a simple keyboard baseline by Resto tbh. Although Resto could have still played it, but King got a credit for manipulating the sound or for the way he mixed it. Not sure where the guitar credit comes from. Maybe something hidden deep in the mix in the chorus somewhere @Big Monkey ?
