Haven’t been on here as much as I’d like and I’m basically 3 albums behind here, my bad yall truly.

On vacation and out of town right now, should be able to get caught up on these albums during my downtime at the hotel! I’ll probably just post scores for all 3 albums at once just because I’m so behind, so sorry to the 3 people who picked those albums that I won’t be able to do a full proper review!

Hoping to be back in full form again in this thread specifically once we resume our picks!

This is one of those so bad that it's actually good songs.

Lol true. Yuno Miles is hilarious, his whole thing is making bad music on purpose that’s actually funny and ends up being enjoyable because of that. I recommend checking his channel sometime if you need a laugh. This is one of his best

    Saba - Care For Me

    review

This is a sick album to finally be reviewing for @AOTWClub . I swear to god, back when I first started posting here I just knew that we’d get to listening to and reviewing this album eventually. This record has gathered a huge cult following online (and rightfully so), ever since it dropped. I’d honestly thought that someone would pick this earlier in the rotations, but I am hyped that we’re at this point now.

Care For Me, one of the records that were a part of the insane year that was 2018. Seriously, 2018. was such a sick time for hip-hop, atleast for me. I’ll skip talking about other albums that dropped that year, so this review isn’t 20000 words long, but let’s just say there was A LOT of insane drops.

This album was my introduction to Saba and, to date, the only release of his that really stuck with me. This is, in my opinion, a quintessential jazz-rap, or conscious-rap modern album. The record features some of my favorite beats of this kind. The production is so consistently bonkers; so crisp yet emotionally charged, it fits what Saba’s doing like a glove. The music is mellow and easy to listen to but also grimey and raw at the same time. I love how well the traditional instrumentation and drum-machinery & samples blend.

If the fantastic music isn’t enough to pull you in, Saba’s rapping and melodies surely will. For real though, Saba is hungry as f--- on this album. He’s seriously talented at story telling and painting a picture of sorts with his verses. And the hiphop vets out there who are looking for r-----ed, technically advanced schemes to entertain their 144p attention spans won’t be entirely disappointed either. This is because pretty much all of Saba’s performances on here f---ing slap. The man is so good at finding various pockets in these soulful beats and attacking them with very compelling writing.

I think the album’s concept is very touching and well executed. You can really tell that there is a big passion that went into making this. Everything is tied together super well with no filler songs whatsoever! Even the songs that I wasn’t too huge on before, like Broken Girls or Fighter, have now become great ear candy for me. Some of my favorite songs on here have been and still are BUSY/SIRENS, CALLIGRAPHY, and the last three tracks (I am still of the opinion that GREY is a top 10 rap song of the last 10 years). I should probably also mention PROM/KING as a storytelling treasure that I love a lot. This album being so ridiculously complete and well put together has definitely influenced my thoughts on Saba’s newer output: none of it could scratch the CFM itch. This album really is a light-in-the-bottle type of thing, and I am not mad bout that at all.

I’d like to thank @lowkitz for the pick. Loved revisiting this, turns out I enjoy the album even more than I thought I did. I gave the project 4 listens this time around and decided to rate it a…

    10/10

@AOTWClub JT's ban should wear off sometime in the next few hours most likely (I'm not sure about the time zone he's in, but if anyone is in the same as mine, it'll be overnight)

Tomorrow, we'll most likely have a discussion on what the next round will hold. Since we didn't have the opportunity to set a theme for the mixtapes this time around, I'd suggest that we do another round of albums so that we could have time to prepare, but the decision's ultimately up to JT.

In the meantime, don't forget to get your reviews in for Care for Me, if you haven't!!!
