Extrapolating this train of thought further—

A 6/10 is mathematically also the same as a 60/100, or 60%. i.e., the lowest possible passing grade: D-

A 3/10 is just a 30%: which is close to what you get when writing your name correctly on the exam and circling in random answers into the scantron. There’s enough redeeming songs as to where C6 isn’t that. It could be argued down to a 5. Maybe even a 4 if you’re really trying to pick it apart and believe that 10s don’t exist. But giving anything a 30% seems overtly critical imo.

I get why people correlate media ratings to grades cuz it's an easy point of ref most people have but it's never really made sense to me. Grades in school are a literal percentage that correlates to how many questions you got correct and/or how well you followed the assignment and/or how well you applied whatever you're learning in the class. To me a letter grade is an entirely different thing, like I've never viewed a rating out of 10 for media as a 1:1 comparison for that cuz a piece of media isn't trying to pass a class, there's no rigid guidelines with regard to what it has to be to be good. It makes anything below a 6 to be the same and then what's even the point of having those ratings? That's part of why i like a 5 star rating cuz it distances it from letter grades + the notion that a 6/10 is bad cuz a 3/5 "looks" better. Its funny how arbitrary this stuff is but how many diff views people have on it lol

also for the record im not someone who thinks an album needs to be perfect to be a 10, cuz there's no such thing as a perfect piece of art, everything has flaws even if they're minor. I think critics should be slightly more generous with handing out 10s (but not overly so)
