Jan 22, 2025 I (along with others) subscribe to the theory that he changed it @ Revival though. He often previews his style on a feature prior to the album, almost to re-assure himself and test it out too - and I think that feature for Revival was 'No Favors', which is in the vein of 'Believe', and 'Chloraseptic'... I think this was the original Revival vibe and a lot more tracks were like this. Then that verse got absolutely trashed and clowned. Then I think he rush-recorded a bunch of s--- to try and basically make a bunch of Recovery-esque & MMLP2-esque tracks @ 'Like Home', 'Nowhere Fast', 'Heat' etc. Which is why I believe they all sound like goofy, tacky knock-offs which are badly written. Wheras 'Believe' is thoroughly written and has a very distinct, and new (vs MMLP2 or Recovery) style - and like 'No Favors' - with that tonality and the spurts of intensity, and just the style of writing. 'Arose' is also in that vein. So I think he kept a handful, but did that with the rest - in response to the backlash. Which is fkn stupid bc the verse only got clowned due to that list thing... He reacts so insecurely and abrubtly to... very fickle backlash. Like, if he did do the above; why not look deeper into the actual clowning and feedback anyway - I didn't hear people say 'ah this writing is whack. This tone is fkn s---' etc. it was all about that list, and people are sheep and copy each other and go AHAHAHA EM LIST THING VERSE IS TRASH YEAH LOL LOL. He's so scared to stick to his guns... So that's essentially 3 albums @ Encore, Relpase 2 & Revival he's ruined or not put out now due to this. Well, Encore was due to the leaks, but, again stupid decision. Like, he's so short sighted; 'oh they don't like it immediately? f--- leme make a bunch of other s---!' not thinking about the album's long-term and lasting effect and these s-----y new tracks he's rush making to appease vs. ones he put time and effort into, which actually will make-up a decent album and stand the test of time instead.
Jan 22, 2025 I still stand by the fact that the production ruin 80% of the album. Just bad beats, bad mixing, bad mastering. It’s still astonishing how his producers and engineers thought it was ok to release that. Even the singles don’t sound good even on radio. River, walk on water… I mean it’s no wonder that era didn’t spawn a hit. From my memory, it’s the only album that he has that didn’t have a major hit single.
Jan 22, 2025 Yeah but all the bad s--- I reckon was bc it was rushed. Thas the s--- I'm saying he rush made to be like Recovery-esque or MMLP2-esque. Like, 'Believe', which I think is a genuine Revival track... great production, mixing, clear, lovely. I don't really think there's much wrong with 'Walk on Water' mixing though? Sounds fine to me, it's p minimalistic. 'River' was quite a big worldwide hit too, especially in UK. Obviously largely due to Ed too, But even in US it was a mid hit. Got to like no. 11.

Jan 23, 2025 What finally got me to give up on this forum after ignoring everything else? The overwhelming hype for “I’m sorry”. That was the push I needed, really put things into perspective on the type of fans this guy has now. Ems fanbase Is not the same anymore and it never will be.
Jan 23, 2025 Not exactly true tho. Fans were excited for Revival untill the Walk on Water song dropped which they hated because it was beatless. It didn't sound like what people would expect from a hip hop album first single. I still wonder how that would have turned out if he just released Castle as the first single. I bet it'd have been bigger than other singles he put out from that album. And it's very different than what happened with Relapse. If he ever had a Revival 2, that would be the same situation. He might not have scrapped it tho bc the reason he scrapped R2 is not just bc people complained too much about accents and s--- but he also hated them too.
