Nov 2, 2021 Dems get an early warning sign in today’s Virginia Governor race. Youngkin pulled ahead in the polling average (+1) in recent days but was well within the margin of error. Still, the environment favored Republicans & it showed tonight. Biden won Virginia by +10 last year. Im not sure there’s much to take away from this election other than the obvious: Democrats are in power & you’re seeing voters push back against them as they usually do to the party in power. Thermostatic public opinion at its finest. It’s unfortunate & Democrats may be able to help at least lessen the bleeding come midterms next year if they can improve economic conditions but there’s little academic research to suggest that will save them from the inevitable.
Nov 3, 2021 Last night was a preview of 2022 and 2022 will be a preview of 2024 if the Dems don't DRASTICALLY do things differently the next year. Really wish @papa andy was around to laugh at me and smuggly tell me how wrong I am.
Nov 3, 2021 Im not sure there’s anything Democrats can do to prevent losing their majorities in 2022. It’s pretty standard that the party who wins the White House gets swamped the following midterm. We‘ve seen this trend for decades now. Democrats can pass all their policies & hope it stops the bleeding & perhaps they don’t lose as badly but that’s, realistically, best case scenario imo. Also, as bad as last night was for Democrats, it could have been a lot worse. It has been a lot worse in the past. last night we saw ~10 point swing toward Republicans in Virginia.
Nov 4, 2021 Got a strong feeling that we're going to get either Trump or somebody equally as ridiculous in the White House in 2024.
Nov 4, 2021 Or just do anything at all, lol. Where are the healthcare improvements? Where's the progress on student loan forgiveness? Where's the literally anything other than banning my right to buy menthol cigs? It's not JoeyB's fault by any means, but bro, s---'s kind of getting expensive out here...it'd be cool to maybe try to address that...idk. I appreciate that the Dems aren't blatant racists on social media but jeeeeeesus please give me a few good reasons why I should waste my vote on them instead of wasting it on f---ing Yang's Forward Party lol
Nov 4, 2021 Too bad mail in ballots arent much of a thing this year. Can't wait for this loser to get out of the White House. I just hope DeSantis runs so we avoid all the idiots voting just because they hate Trump.
Nov 4, 2021 I think the issue is the sweeping changes you guys want were always going to be difficult to accomplish with a 50 majority senate. I was hopeful that Democrats might abolish the filibuster to get a lot done but Senators Manchin has dug his heels in & won’t allow it. That being said, the coronavirus stimulus bill from earlier this year; eventually infrastructure + another reconciliation bill will pas; these bills are going to improve a lot of people’s livelihoods. Touching back on this, Vox published a great piece dissecting the Virginia election:
Nov 4, 2021 Red wave coming. Can’t wait. America is waking up to all the Liberal bs. Our economy and country are in shambles since Trump left office. How can anyone argue against that? It’s beyond me.
Nov 6, 2021 Ain't no dem/lib gonna think voting republican will fix the economy or viceversa. I think every U.S election comes down to which party can rile up and gather enough of their own voter base to get out and vote in enough numbers. IMOTrump would've won if he hadn't gone spastic during his last year and made so many dem voters show up and possibly lose republican and swing votes. I doubt the massive turnout for Biden was because of Biden's genius politics or his charisma tbh people just hated Trump more
Nov 9, 2021 Pretty much this, at least in my case. Biden's been severely underwhelming (and Kamala literally told those central Americans to stay home and not come to the US...then was never seen again???), but I'd still much rather vote for a Biden Replacement or a competent third party than even consider Republicans, these days.
Nov 9, 2021 You replace Biden with any other Democrat with the same Congress & you’d be dealing with the same issues legislatively. If not worse tbh! Again, there’s just only so much he can do with a 50-50 Senate & the margin in the House isn’t that big either.
Nov 11, 2021 My one big concern is i remember all this talk about a public option for health care like how a lot of countries have. He has made almost no mention of it since he took office. Now it's "we're gonna expand Obamacare for like 8 million Americans". That's cool and all, but it's a far cry from nationwide coverage. Not at all a good look for his future if he thinks this is as far as he needs to go & that this would be his mission accomplished. This is the whole "he's an incrementalist" thing people were worrying about when he won the primaries. Gotta bring that public option back into the convo, d--- near every developed country has it.
