I'm kinda late on this but I'd send Marcus Smart and a Celtics 2018 first round pick for Melo.

You get Melo as a low risk, high reward player. You don't end up trading the Brooklyn picks, but I don't think the Clippers can match that value. Maybe they can because their draft pick would be in 2017, but I think ours would be higher, plus Smart is a good trade piece. Smart isn't the answer, he's a role player (even though I like him), and you get an upgrade in the 2017 draft with the Brooklyn pick (since it's guard heavy).

I don't think Melo has been motivated for years. I think if he was on this Celtics team, he'd have a jolt of energy, and he'd really help this team. A lot more than Marcus Smart, anyways. Granted, it would hurt our defense, and our defense has been suspect lately, but I think it'd lighten the load on IT.

melo ironically had a person to IT on his team before and it imploded of course im talking about AI and thats when he semi tried on defense. As a knicks fan, i hope he gets traded to boston if anywhere because i no it will f---in imploded ur team :) not only on defense but offense as well.

True, but they did make the Western Conference Finals in that year with AI, and lost to a flat out better Lakers team. That Nuggets team was deadly though.

Plus, Boston wouldn't be centered around Melo, like the Knicks are/have been.

The Celtics are a much better overall team than the Knicks have been for years. The Knicks don't have a solid foundation or system. They do very sloppy patchwork, and I think Melo knows this.

IDK, I'm not saying Melo is the Celtics answer or anything. I just think he'd be more beneficial to this team than Marcus Smart would be. Plus, as long as we keep the Brooklyn pick (which I see no reason to trade it), then they get an immediate replacement and upgrade for Smart, and the upside of Melo.

melo just tricky to predict what hes gonna do on a nightly basis these days like tonight he went 7-25 and played no defense for 3 f---ing quaters then the 4th comes he blocks like 3 shots and actually closes out on 3 point shooters. Melo is a f---in conundrum, I dont understand him as a player he makes no god d--- sense. I swear this muthafucka cant finish at the rim anymore(no hops left in his body) and still shoots 44% while being double teamed. IT doesnt make snese. The only way it works on the celtics is if they make him a 3 point shooter on the side of a pick and roll based offesnive system. IF melo accepts that role on the celtics it will be f---ing perfect the problem is he wont.

I think the problem with Melo is that the Knicks gave him the team, but they didn't give him a good enough team to work with. The Knicks are a lot like the post-Mangini Jets... They don't really build a system/team with a strong foundation. They just do really poor patchwork with aging/injured veterans.

By the way, I'm not saying the Celtics would compete for the East, but I think they could compete better with the Raptors. Do they beat out the Raptors for the ECF against the Cavs with Melo? IDK...

I just think it's a better option than hanging onto Smart, in a year that the Brooklyn pick is gonna be a top 3 pick, in a draft with top heavy guard talent. If the Celtics aren't going to get that franchise player via trade for the Brooklyn pick, I think they need to unload Smart/Avery/Rosier, and I think Smart is the best option because of his trade value (but also not as good as Avery Bradley. I wouldn't trade Bradley for Melo).

I understand Knicks' fans hatred/annoyance of Melo, and other teams' apprehension of trading for him. However, I think Melo is a great player in the NBA, I've thought this for years. I blame the Knicks more than him. Much like the Cavs in their first go around with LeBron. They were very lazy and didn't develop a good enough team around him. Problem is, Melo isn't LeBron lol.

See the thing is i love melo its just endless frustrating to watch him because its so obvious when he gives up on a play or gets into one on one battles witht he guy guarding him. The other problem with the idea of trading him to celtics is he hates them passionately. Everytime we play you guys he almost fights crowder or smart its borderline ridiculous. I also think the knicks wont trade him for just smart and a 1st round pick becuase they already looking for a third team to help the clippers make the deal more appealing and apparently they were gonna give up redick and rivers and a future 1st round pick which is better than just smart already.

Yeah, I don't see the trade happening, but I don't think all of that other stuff really matters (as far as fighting with Crowder). I think once you get sent to a team, you find a way to make those relationships work.

IDK if Rivers/2017 1st round pick is better than a Smart/2018 Celtics 1st round pick, but yeah, Reddick being involved tips the scale in Clippers favor. Otherwise, I think it's basically a wash.

If I'm Clippers or Celtics, I'm low-balling the f--- out of the trade though. It's obvious that Phil wants him gone ASAP. I'd hold my ground if I'm either team.

I really wish I saw that game, even my mate who's a Celtic supporter was watching it. The Rockets are an incredible team and it sounds like we really gave it to them. James Harden...

The one major thing you didn't touch on is Melo's contract. Paying Horford and Melo, with Isaiah and Bradley's free agency on the horizon (after next year). Doesn't really allow you to do anything in the off-season and honestly im not sold on it making the team any better. The Celtics have a great team in place because IT (6.5 M), Crowder (6.2) & Bradley (8.2 M) are three of the best non rookie deals in the league, especially with the cap rise.

The days of getting guys like Evan Turner for 2 year $4 Million are over (Portland gave him 4 years 72 Million, imagine what IT and AB will get). If you have a pulse, you get paid in this league. A 7 footer off the bench who can s---t 3's and spread the floor like Olynyk (RFA this off-season) is a nice thing to have, but you're probably looking at 4 years 50 M to keep him. Most of Celtics front court minus Horford is probably gone after this season and you have some serious holes to fill through Free Agency. Ante Zizic will come over from Europe (C's 23rd overall pick in 16') and he looks legit, but they need help in that area.

I think Ainge will go out at the trade deadline and get someone like Bogut for cheap. But this postseason will determine where the team goes. If the Celtics land the #1 pick you take Markelle Fultz and trading Isaiah becomes a real possibility. Especially if the team craps out in the playoffs again.
