Jul 28, 2019^ That was an enjoyable watch. For those who didn't, Nas was again asked about Lost Tapes 3 & 4, and he said he's planning to make Lost Tapes 3 feature-heavy and he's got a great set lined up. Hoping that Jay-Z/Justin Timberlake track is among them.
Some disparate thoughts on the album after many, many spins:
- It's really good. Doesn't have the same vibe as the first but this can be expected considering when each were recorded. I'm surprised to see it's not doing very well critically. This is vintage Nas.
- Despite enjoying the project, I'm not entirely happy with how things panned out with the last 2 projects. If not for Nasir, we may not have had Lost Tapes 2. That said, we may have had an album featuring the likes of Tanasia, No Bad Energy, Adult Film and QB Politics instead, which are some of my favourite tracks on this. Not gonna moan. Glad to have the songs either way.
- Though I can see why it was cut from Life Is Good, Beautiful Life really brings that album full circle from his relationship troubles all the way back to the streets where he could have become a victim in his youth. It's just a great track all-around and is a really nice closer here.
- I'm 99% sure that The Art Of It has been altered to remove a diss of some sort. This comes late in the third verse:
'Cautiously I write this next line honestly 'cause I'm a G, there's no beef
I used to open off making fifty G's
But now I spend that on a diamond to make her neck freeze'
... To my ear the bolded has been re-recorded. His voice is deeper. Considering he mentions divorce earlier in the verse, most likely guess would be a Kelis reference. Warning: once you hear it you can't unhear it.
- Looking forward to what else Nas will release from the vault, and hoping it doesn't take as long to get volume 3. Crossing my fingers Nas can work something out with Columbia to unearth more songs from that era too. That was a 7 album period and I'd gladly take mastered versions of Talk Of New York, Serious, Foul Breeze, Good Morning, The Rise & Fall, My Worst Enemy etc plus who knows what else is still unheard.

I saw all the hate for “Jarreau of Rap” so went into listening to it with low expectations and I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely different but has a real good vibe, great flow, nice lyrics, and creative structure and sound.
I don’t think the rest of the album will have that sound but I appreciate him trying different things.
The era the songs this album comes from isn’t my fav time period for Nas, but the producers on this album weren’t on his previous albums too much so his sound could be good on this.
Hope he has at least 2 great songs on thisKPD, Ordinary Joel, Altereagle416 and 1 other person like this. -

I thought it was cool that he did a Prodigy tribute and mentioned the mural. I went multiple times to see that mural and met the artists who worked on it. It's a shame that it was defaced twice. But like the song says, it's QB Politics.Buddha, Ordinary Joel and GawDEDEDE like this. -

Hopefully he doesn’t try to release “Film” “Deja Vu” or “Wanna Play Rough” and pass it as a new release feel me, I would feel personally insulted as a Nas stan if he did that even if 90% of his fans ain’t heard thoseBuddha, Zeugma and Ordinary Joel like this.
