Was just going through my iPod when this song came on. Haven't heard it in awhile. One of my favorite intros of all time

If you haven't heard by now, Koolo et al. have made me the new moderator of this section. I'm going to leave this thread stickied and update it with new rules and guidelines for Music as we work them out together, some by trial and error.

For now, a few broad strokes:

-- It was my idea to discontinue the Albums section. I think that consolidating music discussion in the Music section is going to benefit all of us.

    But what does this mean?

Well, I'm not particularly concerned about the time frame for album threads. That will sort itself out: Very famous artists will see a thread for their album stick around for a long time before/after release, while smaller and mid-level artists will have threads come and go. That's the way it should be. In practice, this means that there shouldn't be a Danny Brown Appreciation thread--there should be one for his new album. Once that dies out, it dies out; if you want to bump the conversation, find that thread and bump it. Search before posting.

-- The exception to that rule is if you want to talk about a defunct or inactive artist. While I don't want the Danny Brown Appreciation thread, I'm fine with the Kool G Rap Appreciation thread. On that note, with big anniversaries coming up, it might be interesting to do a thread about an album in specific terms, i.e.- an ATLiens thread when that album turns 20 later this month.

-- Try to keep thread titles uniform. That means threads with the album tag and the name of an album/artist, or something else instantly recognizable. If you're posting what you believe to be relevant music news, either go with the headline of the publication you're liking to, or something even more economical. If you're discussing something a little more abstract, use your judgment. I'll edit titles as I see fit.

-- I'm repeating this because it bears repeating: Search before posting.

-- No racism, no sexism, etc. I'm the sole arbiter. Don't like it? Write your congressman.

I'm not going to go back through the section and change/merge things that already exist, except when it affects the present. I'm an actual person with an actual life. But from this point forward, we're going to adhere to a version of this, and within the month the front page of Music will look how it should look. Please feel free to PM or mention me when necessary. If I'm not available, hit up @BigCountry.

To be clear, I'm not about objectivity, I care more about enjoying music. Not just hiphop btw, 2016 has been awesome so far.
Haven't heard as much as some of you though so a lot will not be on this.

Try to have the first 10 up tonight.

    What are yours?

    30. Sia - Cheap Thrills

I'm not sure if this was officially released in 2016, because when I google it I get the remix version. I absolutely love this song. Sia is doing a great job and the beat is amazing. @Deadpool you know Rihanna rejected this song? I don't mind it that much but imagine her doing this song. Sean Pauls mumbling and I never listen to that version.

    29. Drake - One Dance

As expected, Drake's 'Views' wasn't that great. But this single -as well as the Rihanna collab 'Too Good'- sounds so great on many occasions. In the car, at parties. It's not that impressive I guess but it has such a nice summer vibe. I still listen to it a lot.

    - I tried to get a yt link but they were all r-----s covering it-

    28. Zara Larsson - This One's For You

Yeah I have no arguments to say it's that good. It's a regular pop/dance song made for Euro 2016. Her voice is just amazing, I'm a huge fan of her., not just this song. And the performance at the opening/closing ceremony >>>

Also have a lot of great memories from parties this was played.

    27. Kevin Gates - Pride

'Kevin Gates is just an average trap rapper'. h--- no. This is one of the most honest and emotional songs I heard from him. About a man trying to act like a tough guy but on the inside being overpowered by feelings. The chorus kind of explains the whole song. This song shows he is on of the best rappers right now. This list is not really in order, because if it was this would have been higher for sure. Thank @Soldier for introducing me to his music a while back. ISLAH is a classic.

    26. Gucci Mane - Pop Music

Gucci is out of prison, how could you miss it? He has been active as f--- and even released a new album. To be honest, I don't like the album as much as some of his previous music, but d--- it had some gems. This song was described by dew as 'one of the hardest songs ever' and I don't have much to add. Gucci's release is a blessing for rap music.

    25. Kanye West - Real Friends

I have always been a fan of Kanye being experimental even though it has been hit or miss for me. I absolutely love 808 (@Koolo ) and MBDTF is a top 5 album of all time for me. I tried so hard to love Yeezus as much as some of you do, and I like it a lot.. but not as much. The official Life Of Pable was a huge dissappointment to me, especially after hearing some of the OG songs. This might be the song that comes the closest to a traditional rap song, but it is my favorite song of the album by far. Would have been different if Saint Pablo was on it though. Such a great song, and for me a lot of replay value.

-f---ing youtube only has s-----y covers and copyright s----

    24. Pitbull ft. Enrique Iglesias - Messin' Around

I am a HUGE fan of summer/chill songs and I haven't stop playing this when it came out. All of the Enrique and Pitbull collabs have been great to me and this is no exception. Of course there is nothing deep, original or special about this song.. but the dude knows how to make catchy music. When it comes to actual quality this is not on the same level as some others here, sure, but I love it.

    23. Fifth Harmony - The Life

I listened to Fifth Harmony's album a few times and honestly, it's full with gems. Not that it's really special, but if you like this song, and their hit song 'Work From Home' you should definitely check out the album. I picked this song because it's my personal favorite and the chorus has been stuck in my head for days. And the production is great. One of these girls also had another big hit, 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' that I wanted to include but that song is ruined for me by that corny fa---- Shawn Mendes.

    22. Young Thug - With Them

I have said before, SS3 is my favorite Young Thug project. Mainly because I love the production. And on this song, and obviously others, Thug proves that besides using different and creative voices/melodies, he can also rap. Such a great artist. Also when I first heard this song the melody reminded me of Nigg*s in Paris somehow.

    21. Jay Z ft. Fat Joe, Remy Ma & French Montana - All The Way Up (remix)

2016 has been empty for Jay fans so far. But lately he released 3 songs which gives me hope we'll get a new project soon. When this song popped up when I visited atrili, I have never heard the original -not kidding-. So not only did I hear a new, and first 2016 Jay verse, I got introduced to this b-----r of a song. All of them were great on this, no doubt. A remix for the city..

    20. Shakira ft. Carlos Vives - La Bicicleta

I have absolutely no idea what this song means, but I am a huge fan of spanish (summer) music and this, among a few others has been on replay for months now.

    19. 2 Chainz ft. Lil Wayne - MFN Right

Weezy and ti--y Boy released their collab album, but from all the collabs they did this year this song is my favorite. Zaythoven proved he can make an unique and interesting beat and well.. weezy kills it.

    18. Enrique Iglesias ft. Wisin - Duele El Corazon

When I listen to this song I close my eyes and pretend to be in Spain at a beach party. Again I don't really know what all of it is about but d--- this sounds so great this time of year.

    17. Rihanna - Love On The Brain

The beginning of the chorus literally gave me goosebumps. She proves again she has the voice of an angel with this song. This is different from her dance or club tracks, but she can do everything and make it sound amazing. 'I'm fistfighting with fire, just to get close to you' >>

    16. YG ft. Lil Wayne - I Got A Question

YG's follow up to My Krazy Life has been a treat. It's modern west coast music at it's best. I could have picked almost any other song on the album, but I chose this one because I love Wayne's guest verse. YG is great on almost every track.

    15. Kygo ft. Kodaline

Again, a difficult choice. Kygo's official debut album 'Cloud Nine' is such a great album for the summer. A lot of great artists are on it and to me every song sounds great in their own way. If you like this song you should definitely check out the project.

    14. Anderson Paak - Get Down

I could copy past this a lot because again, this album is filled with gems. The vibe of this song though >>>

Anderson already shined on 'Compton', and he continued that with this release.

    13. Kesha - True Colors

When I thought of Kesha, I always pictured the slutty girl from 'Tik Tok'. There were a handful of party songs I liked, for example 'All That Matters' .Then the whole manager s--- happened and she didn't release music for a while. Until this. This song sounds so powerful even though the lyrics aren't THAT impressive, I love this. A certain rapper from Detroit should take notes how to make an inspirational song without being corny.

After seeing @Arch Dogg and his review that was so a--- that Kevin Gates could eat it, I decided to give an unbiased review of Dr. Dre's 3rd and final album, "Compton".

First off, if you are so attached to "The Chronic" and "2001" that your perception of Dre is clouded by nostalgia, exit this right now. This is not for you.

Now, this album's only similarity's with "2001" are how this is put together like a movie, similar to the albums predecessor and his protégé's work "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City". It has an intro, the sound of a movie logo similar to 20th Century Fox rolling, followed by a introduction about the streets of Dre's hometown, Compton. And it's heavy features, like actors, play an important role in each part they play in. Features range from Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Jill Scott, Marsha Ambrosius, Anderson Paak, Candice Pillay, Ice Cube, Xzibit and his newest crew of potential stars, Jon Connor, Justus and King Mez.

The albums production ranges from classic Dre, from tracks like "Darkside/Gone" and the Trumpet closer "Talking To My Diary" to a slight influence of trap, like on "Deep Water" and "For The Love Of Money". Along with Dre, producers DJ Dahi, Cardiak, Bink, DJ Premier and newcomer DemBeatz from Compton helmed the project, dubbed his "grand finale".

But is it? I'm not going to delve into the history of his cancelled project, "Detox". but the anticipation and impatience for it led to Dre's 3rd album held to a higher standard then his first 2. He simply couldn't match the vision of what the hype was portraying. But it was a d--- good effort. Following the success of Kendrick's Lamar critical masterpiece "To p---- A Butterfly", Dre took notes from Its process and incorporated a new sound, almost completely abandoning his classic G-f--- sound. Sounds good on paper, but just like TPAB, it alienated alot of his fans, because people hate change, atleast when its not in comfortable territory.

All in all, the album had very few issues. The only main issue is that Eminem's verse on "Medicine Man" was sonically not pleasing to the ears and did not feel natural on the album, despite being a great verse. Also, the elephant in the room, how the h--- was MC Ren excluded from the project? I understand Nate Dogg because Warren G used up the rest of his posthumous work on his new LP. But MC Ren was just as important as Ice Cube. And "For The Love Of Money" was mediocre in my opinion. But Dre traded in the mediocre 2nd half of " 2001" and "The Chronic" Eazy-E roastfest, for a bright, introspective look on his career. Kendrick Lamar shines on his bars and steal's the show on "Deep Water", "Genocide" and "Darkside/Gone" like Eminem on the previous LP, and Snoop provides one of his best verses in years on the Jon Connor solo.

The real heart on the album comes from Dre however. You can tell he put his heart into it. You could feel every word he spoke despite the fact it was mainly ghostwritten. This album, despite being an exclusive to Apple, feels natural. Like it wasn't made for a profit.

In conclusion, this album is a future classic. Because of the production, mixing, the features, the cohesion and the sincerity of all the effort.

    Final Verdict: 9.5/10
Best Track: Darkside/Gone & Talking To My Diary
Worst Track: For The Love Of Money

Kid Ink. Simply off the strength of his tattoos, the 28-year old rapper from Los Angeles, California draws a lot of attention. Take one glance at the man, and it’s clear where the name is derived from. But there’s more to the canvas than the body art – if you look past his ever-growing landscape of tattoos entrenched with specific meanings, anecdotes, interpretations, and relationships, you’ll soon be privy to the undeniable work ethic that’s gotten him to where he’s at today. The hunger to succeed, that’s been the driving force behind his upcoming release, becomes apparent, and the integrity that’s kept him true to himself and where he’s from takes centerstage.

Bliss I don't have any bitches

I finally sobered up. Ok here's my final verdict of this s--- after 10-15 listens. It MIGHT be the best e Cole album despite having a few flaws. I still think Photograph is weak and the subject of the song is somewhat basic af, hook doesn't help either. Motiv8 grew a bit on me, but s--- still sounds like a straight Kendrick track of d---. If I ain't in the mood, I'm skipping that s--- too. The rest is great. And the rest has some of the best Cole writing of his career. I don't remember hearing any corny s--- on here, dude was finally focused as in "focused album mode". That's what I've been saying for all these years b, and I think it's obvious to everyone who listens to this s--- how different it is from usual Cole album from that standpoint. The album concept isn't anything deep, but s--- worked. Think on the other albums Cole tried too hard to follow in the GKMC blueprint, I believe he made this s--- effortlessly, he just had fun making music and hit the zone. It sounds like that. Production is nice too, I like how s--- isn't over flooded with instrumentation, it's just straightforward. Rhodes/piano +808/bass + drums + some versatility as the track progresses with the brass sections. Same formula on the more trap beats, except the instrumentation is replaced by synths and plucks. That way you can catch attention of these trap listeners who rap over a simple a--- beats, but it doesn't sound cheap like that s--- does. Cole could've used BJ Chicago Kid or Musiq Soulchild on some hooks, but IMO it isn't that much of a setback as yall make it to be. If those vocals weren't pitched down, it would sound like a regular Cole singing. Nothing spectacular, but it's good enough. I think people should be more impressed by Cole coming up with those melodies on these kinds of beats where isn't much going on. The way he wrote those melodies could easily make him top 10 songwriter in the game if he decided to write for others. Mixing still ain't perfect, and on some tracks vocals are louder than on the others, and it also sounds like he has recorded this on more than 1 mic. Despite that, it's much better mixed than 4YEO. I can see them giving a Grammy to Cole for this for 3 reasons - 1. he's on Interscope and he's everywhere now (heard ATM yesterday multiple times during the NBA commercial breaks), expect him to be on SNL, Fallon, etc. too, 2. he made something that criticizes todays society like Kendrick did. 3. and actually made something that is not expected of him, flipped the sound a bit and it sounded good. Another plus is that it's only 42 minutes long. I give this s--- 8.5/10 for now. We'll see how it will age.
