    I'd hate to think I'm the only one here who likes chopped & screwed/slowed & chopped. What are some of your favorite tracks? Do you think some tracks sound better this way? I know the genre isn't for everyone. Growing up in Houston it was everywhere, so I'm biased.

    Aside from DJ Screw, I've been listening to a guy named DJ Purpberry for about 7 years now. He sticks to newer tracks exclusively. No one does it like Screw himself, but Purpberry is the closest I've heard anyone come to The Originator. Here are some of his best tracks:

    Remember when it seemed like all these meme rappers were actually getting careers off bs music? If you didn't support it it you were labeled an old head. Nowadays these artists are doing whatever they can to remain remotely relevant, even going as far as botting their streaming numbers. Guess they were just a product of the Trump years, where acting stupid and controversial netted you social media worth.

    These artist didn't seem to understand that those who used memes to further push their music did so with actual music. These manufactured meme stars put the jokes, antics and gimmicks up front and made the music secondary. Very few artists actually capitalized off their 'clout' and everybody that did went on to make good music, but not everyone can be Based god.

    A Tribe Called Quest legend Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor passed away on March 22, 2016, leaving another gaping hole in the Hip Hop community that will never be filled. But the Five-Foot Assassin’s legacy will carry on in his music — not only with A Tribe Called Quest’s celebrated catalog but also his forthcoming solo album Forever,which is finally being rolled out after years of anticipation.

    Forever — a collection of “carefully assembled songs earmarked by his signature verbal fireworks, hilarious ad-libs, incisive social commentary, and unexpectedly introspective confessions” will be released via Rasta Root’s Smokin’ Needles Records imprint in partnership with indie distributor AWAL. No official release date has been announced yet, but as Phife’s mother Cheryl Boyce-Taylor told DX last November, Forever will certainly arrive sometime early this year.

    Boyce-Taylor, a renowned poet, recently released her new book Mama Phife Represents, a vibrant collection of poetry, short stories and handwritten letters all related to her late son.

    This didn’t turn out how I wanted it. He wanted an email based interview where I sent him all the questions at once. He did comb over some things I asked for obvious reasons, but it wasn’t as organic as I wanted. I was hoping for a phone call but hey, it’s still something. It’s my first interview so I’m glad I got the chance. I’m obviously green, but I have to start somewhere. Thanks for the support, guys.

    LAST WEEK: Nas' The Message defeated Juice Wrld's Lucid Dreams (12-4)

    Welcome back, SectionEighty. Hip hop is notorious for sampling and many songs share the same samples. Sample Battles is a poll-based competition where we vote on which song featuring the same sample is better. Simply vote for your favorite song out of the four, the song with the most votes after one week will win. Every Thursday the previous weeks winner will be announced and the current battle will be posted!
    Like this post to be mentioned next week!

    @Fire Squad @Donkey Kong Cuntry @Michael Myers @Ramz @Rick James @Ordinary Joel @Boos @WPG @cpt awesome WPG joint acc @JMG @Enez @OffTopic BS

    Note: Drake also sampled Wildflower for his 2010 track 'Miss Me feat. Lil Wayne' however he sampled a different part of the track than these four songs and therefore wasn't included.
