There’s nothing inherently wrong with music that’s polarizing, nor with music that celebrates the spoils instead of fixating on the struggles. Considering just how much of the latter Young Thug has experienced in his 23 years in-and-out of the trenches, watching him reap what he’s been sowing since his first “ay” produces an immediately euphoric contact high. Thug births and subsequently masters countless styles before even his own crew can process the register of his delivery, let alone the intricacies of his melodies. On one hand, he’s a caricature of a cartoon character, but on the other, he’s an enigma; a transcendent b------ child of mid-2000s Lil Wayne and Kanye West. And he’s arguably more in tune with the essence of this actavis-leaned sound he’s imagined into existence than any other artist in the genre is with their own respective craft....
Applause to @Narsh for putting together what is very likely his best piece yet.

Yo, it's BoshtrichBurger here to bring you the Greatest Hip-Hop Album Knockout Tournament to ever grace the SectionEighty forum! Over the past two days I've collated the results that YOU gave to me. You guys were asked to nominate what you thought were some of the greatest albums (either universally lauded or just personal selection) to ever grace the great genre of Hip-Hop. A total of 103 albums were put up for nomination, with 64 meeting the requirements to enter this knockout tournament. To set up the seeds (from 1 to 64), I ran the list through random.org and what you will see below is the seeds that were spat out of the randomiser.
I will try my best update this OP throughout the running of this tournament.
So anyways, let the tourney begin!
PS - Each round will last 18-24 hours.

Feb 19, 2015
I've had a little search around and can't find anything like this.
I have been a big fan of DJ Screw now for just over a year. As most of you will know C&S is a genre of music pioneered by DJ Screw and has had a huge influence on the Houston music scene and music in general. For those that don't know, it involves slowing music down, repeating parts (chopping), record scratching (screwing) and some other techniques like skipping beats and stop-time.
I used to think it was trash and a rip-off of original music, until one day something clicked and I have loved it ever since, I hope to get anyone into it as there is an abundance of amazing tracks and for me there's something sort of 'magical' about it.
He has a discography of at least 200 mix-tapes and for each one I listen to ill post some of my favourite tracks from it on here. Feel free to post any 'chopped and screwed' music on this thread.
To start here is one of my favourite tracks I have found so far:
The first minute of this song represents almost everything about the genre.Last edited: Feb 19, 2015Skippy, Mike Tyson, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and 8 others like this.Apr 24, 2026(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Pride Is The Devil is Cole checking his ego. Because man, if we’re being honest, the whole no features thing was an ego thing.
If you’ve been on this forum for a while, we’ve posted or seen artists mentioning how they were in the studio with Cole or producers sending him beats and we never got anything out of it. So for him to finally stop trying to do everything on his own and branch out was refreshing.
That song reflects his career up to this point.NoRoleModelz, FrenchKick, Spartan23R and 7 others like this. -

Project is split into two categories for me.
Songs that are immediately recognizable as Cole songs:
Applying Pressure
Punchin the Clock
Let Go My Hand
Interlude
The Climb Back
Close
Songs where he’s experimenting in some way:
95 South
Amari
My Life
100 Mil
Pride is the Devil
Hunger on Hillside
On the first listen I was soo hyped up that the recognizable ones hit the hardest. My ears and brain were just ready for it.. Literally every other song hit the second time around. This is what I was looking for from him. I LOVE dour, laid back Cole better than most. I love Truly Yours and 4YEO. But his discography is heavily weighted to songs like that. This gives it some diversity. It’s the first project that feels fun and free. He’s always had a IDGAF attitude but I never really believed him. This was the first time that I did. Proud of dude. Great album. Amazing addition to the discography.
Edit: also this was exactly the right tone that the people need right now. Last year f---ing s----d. Nobody wants to hear about some multimillionaires COVID woes. This is that come back to life s--- for the people. Let’s have a fun summer type s---Equis, GKBS, NoRoleModelz and 7 others like this. -
