Oct 4, 2024A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)
The first horror movie I ever watched at the age of 6! This movie will forever and always hold a special place in my heart, and overall it’s just fantastic! Freddy is genuinely terrifying in this one and has lots of great moments. Speaking of moments, a lot of iconic horror moments come from this movie. “I’m your boyfriend now Nancy”, the bathtub scene, the bedroom levitation, the extended arms from Freddy, 1…2…, Freddy’s laughing skull, etc etc. I can go on a tangent about this movie for forever, it’s a shame that Freddy got more silly from Part 4 onwards. This is the scariest Freddy has been, and probably will ever be. Robert recently doubled down on the fact he will never play Freddy again, and it breaks my heart, but makes sense. I even met the guy at a con when I was younger! Hopefully one day this franchise can come back swinging with someone who does the role of Freddy justice. I’m glad this movie is still able to be enjoyed 40 years after its release and has stood the test of time. Also, Nancy is one of the most badass final girls EVER. Absolutely love Heather’s performance as Nancy in every Elm Street movie she is in.

Movies, especially horror movies are always full of questions... why did he do it? Why the f--- did she go looking where the creepy sound came from? But with all those questions, honestly, there's only one that's actually relevant.
A question, after all these years still haunts me..
.....Is Tamara home???
The Strangers
With that question this movie starts, after the relationship drama the first few minutes. Imagine being alone in a vacation home, no neighbours, no phone... and strange masked people are walking around and inside your house. No motive, no idea who they are and what they want. The idea alone gives me the creeps more than most horror/thriller movies. Mostly because its so realistic. And that is exactly the way the movie plays out. When the dude leaves for a while, I felt the tension when the strangers started teasing and terrorizing the woman. To be fair, that tension wears off when you've seen the movies a few times already, but still. The country songs they used really add to that creepy feeling. The fact that there's barely any violence until the end, but instead relies on making the viewer experience her fear.. and uncomfortable, is it's true strength imo. The movie is simple, yet super effective! 8/10

Thanksgiving
Only been like 6 months since I first and last watched this. But yeah this is a possible new franchise. I wasn't blown away, but its a fun slasher. It's a combination of Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer (the parade stuff) and Halloween with a holiday as the center of it. Fun kills, okay backstory and mostly interesting characters.
However what I didn't notice the first time: no way that the killer did it on his own. It's literally impossible because he had to be at 2 places at once several times during the movie. So, it's either really bad writing to make sure we wouldn't guess the killer till the end, or there's more to come... I hope the last! 7.5/10Marsh, Ripper Roo and DiggleDogg69 like this. -

Immaculate
Honestly, I don’t have a whole lot to say about this movie. The acting was good, especially Sydney Sweeney’s acting. The movie did what it set out to do in creating these creepy nun vibes. The ending was cool for shock value. Overall though I just don’t love or hate the movie. I understand people giving it a 7/10, but I also understand the people giving it a 5/10. I’m kind of in the middle of that. It’s not a bad movie, but it’s not great either.
There were times where it captured my attention and other times where it lost my attention while making me hope the movie would be over soon. I don’t think it was boring but now I can understand why @Marsh thinks that. I wanna say Sydney carried the movie, but the supporting cast was decent too.

What a way to start off October with a b---!
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Wow this movie is awesome. It’s so great at creating an atmosphere with the music, sound effects, cinematography, etc. it really feels like they don’t make s--- like this often anymore. This movie has such a unique vibe to it. The kills are some of the most creative I’ve ever seen. It’s such a satisfying loop seeing the characters go throughout the day getting more and more panicked as time goes on and you just can’t wait for the night so you can see what crazy s--- Freddy does next when they fall asleep.
It’s crazy watching these older movies sometimes though because some of these “high schoolers” look like 30 year olds lol. One negative about the movie is that sometimes the acting just wasn’t on point. There were certain occasions where the way characters reacted just didn’t make sense or wasn’t enough. Like for example Rod seemed way too calm at first when Tina was getting killed. Other than that I really don’t have many complaints.
It’s a funny coincidence that I watched this before going to bed. Hopefully Fred doesn’t get me!
