i love max payne, too. but action/adventure games are my favorite type of game, so that probably has something to do with why i enjoyed it so much.

i don't think the 3rd one s----d, but it's definitely not as good as the first 2.

The Max Payne games are cool but they always seem pretty short to me, still definitely fun and worth playing though.

I've only played the 1st and the 3rd. I mostly play open world games or sports, so the linear story mode is a change for me but i guess I'm the minority in thinking 3 was a classic. Can't wait to hear any news at all about Max Payne 4.

I loved all three although I liked the first two more than the third. Remedy developed the first two which is why. Wish they could've kept developing the series. They later developed Alan Wake which I never did get to play.

I prefer the story in the original. over the third. It was very emotional for me, I was young at the time. Felt bad for Max and found him to be a deep character I could relate to.

Story is just a generic Hollywood movie wannabe, of course graphics are better that's just an age thing. The writing is bad, there's no classic Max monologues, introspective thinking. In Max Payne 3 he's just throwing one liners and trying to be funny, that's not Max Payne. Max Payne wouldn't say "Baghdad in G strings, he'd say "A hint of desperation had crept into the snow, as if it's trying to get it all out before the end" or stuff like that. Poetic. Max in Max 3 is just a generic action hero cracking jokes.

And the worst thing about Max Payne 3 are the unskippable cutscenes. You get to play for 10 seconds, then another 5 minute cutscene. There's 4 hours worth of cutscenes in the game. It's more of an interactive movie than a game.

I liked Max Payne in MP3, I took him cracking jokes as his character being sick of his own poetic bs, it was a sarcastic, somewhat careless Max in a savage setting he oddly fits into.

Don't get me wrong.. I enjoy the 1st two, and love the Noir elements...I just feel part 3 told a more complex story, than the originals.

Also, Part 3 has Noir elements as well.. and I look at it as a neo-noir game..after all it's got 'Noir Mode'..lol

The cut scene part was a pain in the a--- for sure. I mean, yeah, I'm gonna watch them the first time, but it makes you do it every time. Also the dialogue to me felt like Max was much more cynical in 3 than the original.

I get that. Rockstar developed the most technically sound game of the series, but imo they didn't capture the feel that the original developers of the franchise (Remedy Entertainment) had created.

I enjoyed the New York section of the game like crazy tho. The events that happened there could've made for a solid plot line. 9 years after the events of Max Payne 2 and he's been dismissed from the NYPD, and drunkenly kills the son of a major crime boss. With the events of the series starting with Max having his wife and child murdered, it could've made for an interesting psychological angle

I'm sorry but you can't say the generic Hollywood story of Max Payne 3, which is a ripoff of the movie "Man on Fire" is more complex than a noir story of revenge that turns to be bigger than life, involving secret societies and Norse mythology. Max starts by fighting lowlife thugs and ends with fighting a secret society more powerful than the government. That's light years more complex than "You're a security guard. Person you're supposed to guard is kidnapped, save her". They're just some random people Max is hired to guard, Max is not emotionally tied to them, and anything that happened is not personally interesting to Max. Just some Brazil drama he got caught up in.

The original Max Payne has heavy references to mythology and interesting villains. Who cares about anybody from Max Payne 3? While in the original you have Jack Lupino, Vinnie Gognitti, the Finito brothers, Don Punchinello, Vladimir Lem, Mona Sax (huge importance), Alfred Wooden and, among others, the main witch Nicole Horne (fun fact, she's portrayed by Sam Lake's mother - Sam Lake is the writer and the face of Max Payne). Max Payne 3 lacks any noticeable character who we're supposed to care about.

Also, Max Payne 3 ignores the end of Max Payne 2, where he's finally content with the situation and ready to move on. "I had a dream of my wife. She was dead, but it was all right"
All of a sudden he's even worse now than before, when he was supposed to be getting better.
