Sep 4, 2016 As much as I dislike @ConspiracyGang, he's absolutely right about 1 thing. Eminem's emotional/softer s--- is what got him alot of his fanbase. The Monster, Love The Way You Lie. Not Afraid etc. Are all pop songs that have done extremely well. And yes they are pop rap, they have the same formula.
Sep 4, 2016 Let's look at Relapse. It had lyrical s---, but it didn't go so well commercially and especially critically. But Recovery comes out with 2 particular songs that appeal to the hot 100, and they blow up! Suddenly all these young preteen girls are introduced to him and they fangirl out about his emotional songs. Your not gonna find one of those girls rapping "Don't Front" man, she gonna be singing along to "Stronger Then I Was".
