Quadeca - I Didn’t Mean To Haunt You

The album has a unique sound, it seems to blend hip-hop with experimental rock and atmospheric music. It’s hard to pin down to one genre which makes it more interesting. It’s different, but in a way that’s not too much, like JPEG Mafia (no offense to him, though). It still feels accessible. It’s cool to see artists pushing boundaries in music.

I hadn’t heard of Quadeca before. Most Youtubers turned musicians I’ve come across haven’t really impressed me, maybe because it’s hard to take them seriously as artists when you already know them from another lane. But Quadeca did a great job here.

Some of the highlights for me were Knots, Don’t Mind Me, Born Yesterday.

This is not something I think i'd revisit or listen to on a regular basis, but I found it to be an interesting project to explore a few times.

    Thanks for sharing

    7/10

Quadeca- I didnt mean to haunt you

Did some research before listening to this album, and was intrigued by the concept of the album.

The story telling on this album is fascinating and really well done, its not my favorite vocal or music but i found throughout the two listens I did I was very into the story.

From him attending his own funeral on tell me a joke, to him trying to connect with his mom on the next bunch of tracks its all really really interesting and well done.

Danny brown was his typical ear sore self on house settling, in my opinion he didnt really belong or fit in very well. Just seemed kinda odd to me i dunno.

Knots is just a wild song, felt like it had my ADHD running wild lol

Overall i really enjoyed the story of this album and im glad @jankland recommended it cause id never heard of it. It's not something id listen too that often but I definitely respect the creativity and liked it for what it was.

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 9/10

I did my last listen for this review while driving as the son was going down and eventually as it turned to night. In a Walmart parking lot typing this right now actually as I hear the loudspeaker saying they are closing. Anyway, I found driving around listening to this to be fitting as Quadeca himself did this while reacting to albums a few years ago.

I love these albums that feel like there’s more to it than just being an album. Like this album creates a whole world and concept and I really appreciate that. This album came to me at a time when I really needed it. I was in a very dark place and could relate to the subject matter. I still kind of do. No matter how many people know me or love me, sometimes I still feel like a ghost in this world all alone.

This could easily be a repeat of my XXXTENTACION review but I’m gonna try to keep this shorter by mainly focusing on my favorite songs. If anyone would like to have more in-depth conversation of course we could. The production style and Quadeca’s vocals are awesome and really do feel haunting by the way.

Tell me a joke is awesome. I love that idea as a song concept. “Haha, laugh to the grave” instead of laughing to the bank always gets me. “How am I doin' this? Bone dry skeleton, humorous,” is such a catchy part of the song too. The song reminds me of using humor to cope with the bad s--- in your life.

Born yesterday feels like a journey of the soul. So much regret and pain watching your loved ones from purgatory. All this life just flashing before your eyes. All these experiences happening without you. And life goes by so fast that sometimes it’s almost as if you were born yesterday.

Knots is just hardcore, this song feels so me. Definite workout song. Fantasyworld is another song that is so me. It really speaks to my soul. I often had to go to said fantasy world, especially when I was a child, to cope with the horrible things going on in my house and all around me so this song will always resonate with me.

The other songs are good too but I feel don’t mind me and picking up hands were weaker than the others. But other than that this is an amazing album. Great pick @jankland id love to discuss this more later with anyone who wants to. @AOTWClub

Glad you enjoyed it! I agree with enjoying the back half more but the more time I spent with it the first half started really growing on me and now has some of my favorite songs. Danny Brown rapping from the perspective of Carbon Monoxide with never not be crazy lmao. Thor Harris is actually the drummer for Swans so that Cassinis Division comparison isn't farfetched.

Be sure to stick around in my other thread when the new album drops

I Didn't Mean to Haunt You - Quadeca REVIEW

    Score: 9.0

    Review:
Yeah, so worth the hype. I see the vision. I cannot believe this was the guy making KSI diss tracks in the late 2010's haha. Anyways, the production and the vocals on this thing...WOW! Especially fond of the vocals in the back half of picking up hands. While I feel like some tracks ran a tad long, it still didn't feel like they overstayed their welcome. Danny Brown had a fantastic feature (as usual), and the Sunday Service Choir was a nice touch as well. Some fav tracks of mine include don't mind me, picking up hands, house settling, knots, and fantasyworld. Remembering where Quadeca used to be and how he has evolved is insane!

    Phenomenal pick @jankland !

I get you dawg. This is pretty much exactly how I did my first relisten of it a week ago. Immaculate vibes that could get me in the mood for anything.
Alina hasn’t confirmed it, but I definitely think it is an Amy Winehouse reference. I’ve heard she said before that she was inspired by Amy Winehouse and her Frank album. I’ve seen some say it could also be a Frank Ocean reference at the same time. Either way, great song! The Amy Winehouse influence is most likely, multiple people have commented this on their reviews so it has to be intentional. I personally haven’t listened to much Amy Winehouse yet so I don’t know.
Exactlyyyyy. And the title is so fitting because I wanna listen to the song ENDLESSLY.
Nah I definitely agree with you. Very hot, very sexy.
She did Off the Grid before Kanye:jaydaps:
I love that type of feeling. Sometimes I will learn that an album is coming out and avoid the singles just so I can be surprised by it all and take it all in on first listen and get that feeling. I’m glad that it surpassed your expectations, I didn’t expect that.
Her previous album The Color of You is a great start as I think it has some of her best songs like “Yours”. But really you can’t go wrong with any of her music because I’ve never heard a bad song from her. It Was Divine is probably her best, most cohesive body of work, but some of the best songs she’s made are actually elsewhere in her discography.
No problem man, I didn’t expect this album to get such a high rating, that’s a nice surprise so thanks for that!

That is an interesting spot to be in for sure, I mostly come back to this project when I'm in a weird mood but there's still plenty to appreciate from it even if you don't relate anymore imo. Good to hear you're doing better!

That’s how I felt when I first heard Alina Baraz as well. Divine intervention type s---.
What can I say, It Was Divine that I picked this album:kanye3: lol jk. But for real I’m glad this album helped you to not feel so burnt out on music. One of the things I really aim to do here is increase people’s passion for music as it is the most important thing to me in the world. Sometimes all it takes is that one special album and you can feel passionate about listening to music again. I feel you, it’s happened to me before too.
You couldn’t be more correct with this statement. Alina can be soooo mellow. But a lot of artists can be mellow… the problem is a lot of them are boring. When listening to this I get the sense that Alina is just naturally a mellow person rather than trying to force some sort of vibe. It feels true to her and lets her personality shine through. I feel like I know her a little better as a person whenever I listen to her music. But she also still has that mysterious quality to her that provides intrigue.
Ikr? It’s so satisfying when albums are like this. Everything just works. It’s like she had a real artistic vision rather than just throwing a bunch of songs together like some artists do.
I’m so glad someone said this. Her voice really just has something magical about it. I’m not saying she’s the best vocalist in the world or anything, but god d--- I could relax and listen to her voice all day.
Yeah 6LACK really fit the vibe of Morocco and killed the feature. He kills a lot of features. I like his solo work but I get what you mean. Lil Baby is one of those artists for me who work well on singles and features but when put into a whole album experience they just don’t hit the same.
I think you’d probably enjoy the rest of her discography. I’d say overall this album is her best, most cohesive body of work but some of her best songs aren’t even on here. Her previous album The Color of You I really enjoyed as well, in particular I think “Yours” is one of her best songs. I’ve never heard a bad song from her though, I don’t think you could go wrong checking out any of her work.
Thanks bro I didn’t expect this album to get a rating this high, this means a lot. I’ve liked Alina Baraz forever and now that I finally got to put some people on to her it feels good.
No problem bro. It’s also a great album to f--- to or smoke up to and then f--- to, if you’re into that.

    My pick is....

Quadeca - I Didn't Mean To Haunt You:
    artworks-DLWV6SwRK9snRese-szvHWQ-t500x500.jpg

He started out as one of the YouTuber fast rapper types initially blowing up from making videos on Fifa then decided to lock in and make one of my favorite albums of all time. His newest release is coming out this month so I figured this is a good a time as any to introduce anyone not familiar to him! This is a project that consists of mostly singing so if you want to see more of what he's like rapping I recommend the album previous to this From Me To You, although I consider this lane of his to be much much better.

This is fully mixed produced and written by him and I'll give a fair warning that the vocals are mixed lower and fuzzier than normal, it all feeds into the concept of the record and I think it works incredibly in context but if you're interested in the lyrics at all I'd recommend pulling them up for at least one listen.

Interested to see the reactions here and enjoy!

Alina had a song that blew up in 2015 called Fantasy. That’s how I first heard of her, if you ever heard her that could’ve been the song as it’s still her biggest song I think or at least one of the biggest. It was more of an electronic pop track than R&B.
For sure. I love My Whole Life (sunset, sunseeeeet always gets stuck in my head). I agree, Who Got Me probably has the best lyrics on the album.
I’m glad someone pointed this out. It really helps the album feel cohesive and feel like a divine experience which plays into the title of the album
Yeah 6LACK is awesome, maybe I gotta pick one of his albums to show to the group one day. Agree on Morroco, it actually makes me wanna visit Morroco lol
Definitely one of the best songs on the album, she did Off The Grid before Kanye
Fax, he would be another good album pick for the group in the future
Upon relistening to this album one of the things I realized is the 2nd half does seem weaker so I agree with you there. I get what you’re saying about the fatigue which is why I tend to listen to this type of music on chill nights. Although certain songs like Morroco feel great to listen to on sunny days and makes me wanna get out
I’m glad you appreciate Memo Blue. It almost feels more like an interlude track but I think it’s one of the tracks that add a divine feeling to the album, especially with the effect on her vocals and the slow piano. Who Got Me is amazing, it’s lowkey a self-improvement anthem for me. Even if I didn’t realize at the time in 2020, I think this is one of the albums that subtly made me plant the seeds to start my self-improvement journey. Listening to it again in 2025 is a full circle moment, and that’s divine all in itself.
Fax, the use of strings on this album is so nice it feels like heaven sometimes. Funny thing about Say You Know is I made the connection the other day that it sounds like a Gracie Abrams song that isn’t boring.
I get what you mean, Take It Home is kinda repetitive. Although for some reason it really works for me and is one of my favorites on the album, it’s stuck in my head right now.
For sure, Nas killed it. I love having a song called The Beginning at the end of the album.
I’m glad this is the exact kind of R&B you enjoy! No problem I’m just glad you enjoyed it. Great picks for favorite songs and great rating I agree with!
I get that, this music isn’t necessarily the type of music you can throw on at anytime
Yeah she really locked down the sound with this album, very heavenly and cohesive
    That’s a big compliment!
True and honestly is one of the best choruses on the album, it has a big feel to it
Almost feels like lying on a cloud
Yeah, having a Nas feature on this album was big. I wouldn’t necessarily expect Nas to hop on this kind of music but he fit really well
    Nice, thanks for the review!
