Mixtapes are hella fun but I’m excited to listen to and rate albums again. I find writing album reviews more fun. Also, if the record is bad then you’re s--- talking the artist, when the mixtape is bad (although we did not have any of those) you would be trash talking a fellow poster lol.Michael Myers, jankland, Minato and 5 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Big Monkey's Micro Penis (8--D):
iirc this is your first submission that's not explicitly hip-hop which is kind of a flex cause this tape is great!
Hejira is a great start, I got a little more into the Carole King lane of singer songwiter music but I've been meaning to listen to more Joni Mitchell some other songs from her played after the Playlist ended and I ended up saving those as well. Great lyrics and a calming tone.
Thirteen is also great, goes for the whole tape but I like the folkiness of it, been loving that kind of music as of late. Not familiar with Big Star but color me intrigued!
Carpet Of The Sun is fun, more uptempo but still keeping in line with the serene nature of the songs so far. I been going on lot of long walks lately now that the weather is good and can see this and many other songs here being a good companion to those time sinks.
Ophelia is f---ing great, I love everything I've heard from The Band. Something about their guitar tones and the singer really hits my brain the right way. One of my favorites for sure.
Idk what it was but Barstool Blues didn't click with me on first listen to this playlist but on subsequent run throughs I ended up really liking it, feels stupid to say cause it goes without saying but Neil Young sounds great here.
Charlotte Street is super solid as well, adds a bit more flavor of 80s musical styling to the tape in the melody especially. Really good placement as a but of a pace breaker while still keeping in line with the rest of the songs.
Five-O dragged a tiny bit for me but still liked it, the build up with the lyrics on top of the drums is really well executed and I can see myself liking this one even more on future listens. The instrumental breaks are very good
Dancing Madly Backwards is a personal favorite on here, not familiar with Captain Beyond but I love basically everything about this track. I want to articulate it more but I really can't, just hit on every level for me.
Easy Livin' is another one that grew on me, didn't click with me immediately but now i enjoy it when it comes on. Usually not my exact style of music I'd go to immediately but I still have nostalgia for this sound from the stuff my parents would play, I can see my brother really liking it.
Spirit Slips Away is awesome, another favorite for sure. Thin Lizzy always f---s and I've always ado6re the singers voice. That is all.
Love Like Blood was another good pace breaker, in a similar fashion to Charlotte Street, could copy and paste everything I said about that track there which is a compliment!
This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us is the only songs that isn't exactly for me, it's nowhere near bad just not something I'd go back to. Its executing what it's going for very well and I dig the guitars tho.
Nostalgia is a good contemplative track, another good placement on a song on the back half. Slowing down a bit was a good call, love the jazzy vibe to the instruments.
Tinseltown In The Rain is great, big fan. I've realized a big recurrence of what makes this tape work for me is good melodies/delivery and this has it in spades, the instrumental is incredible as well, Kate Bush esque in some moments I really love it.
I think Layne Staley was one of the best voices in grunge and I believe you can make a strong case that AIC is the greatest band in the genre so it makes me upset that I've somehow never heard of Mad Season, this song is incredible but I expect nothing less from the people involved. Hit me like a truck getting my favorite song on the tape as the last song. Good s---.
Favorites: Thirteen, Ophelia, Dancing Madly Backwards, Spirit Slips Away, Tinseltown In The Rain, River Of Deceit

Evad - Evad’s Time Capsule
Favorites: So Fine, It Was A Good Day, Nuthin' But A “G” Thang, Gangsta’s Paradise, Dear Mama, Miss Misery
RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 10/10!!!!!!!!
This is gonna be a short review. Just about all of these are classic songs my grandparents played as a kid that I’ve heard all my life. The song I appreciate most on here is “So Fine” by Howard Johnson since it’s the one I’ve never heard. This song got me feeling sexy. s--- got me unlocking new dance moves
I like how clever the opening and closing tracks are. “Play That Funky Music” is a great opener as Evad, a white boy, proceeds to play us funky music on this mixtape. And of course the ending track being called “Exit Music (For A Film)” is self-explanatory. Maybe this isn’t a mixtape, maybe it is indeed a movie, maybe it’s even…

@Jimmy Jazz - At the Edge of Light REVIEW
Score: 8.8 (14/16)
A solid tape from the former Stepdad Enjoyer and (I think) the first tape where I did not recognize a single song. I like the focus on UK rock on here, a lot of great stuff in this tape. Vincent Craine was a great opening song and set the mood for this mixtape quickly. Some standouts include Vincent Craine, Last Dance, The Saddest Song, The Guns of Brixton, I Would Hurt a Fly, Free Money, Legendary Hearts, and Bar Italia. The only misses for me were Satori and Add It Up. I can understand the appeal for both, just not sure if they were my thing. Great tape Jimmy Jazz!

Jankland - A Night At The Section Eighty
It's 2 in the morning. Had a busy day at the forum yesterday. Kanye dropped another s-----y album, and I had to make sure that @albumdrill didn't eat too much mayo, for his own good. I usually don't go to the club, but @Marsh dragged me to this new spot downtown called "The Section Eighty". Marsh went into the men's-only section as soon as we got there, so I decided to spend the time drinking for a bit. I miss my wife, even though I've never been married.
As I sipped from my drink, I heard DJ Jankland announce the next set, known as A Night At The Section Eighty. Here are my thoughts.
- The Promise- Is this the Wii Sports Resort Theme? Jokes aside, I really enjoyed this track. It sounds familiar, but I’m not sure if I’ve actually heard it before. Great opener!!!
- Time After Time- Pretty decent track
- Only Time Will Tell-This song KICKS a---
- The Rhythm of the Night-GTA 5 has drilled this song into my brain. Still great of course!!!
- Be My Lover- never heard this one, but it’s a great club track. I dig it!!
- Partyman- As a zoomer, this was the first Prince track I really fell in love with, so hearing it here is a treat.
- Fake- Those synths near the end are dope as h---. Great track
- My Prerogative- ANOTHER great club track. This is great
- What About Your Friends- I’m not familiar with TLC aside from No Scrubs, but this was incredible. Might be my favorite track on the whole thing tbh.
- Plastic Love- Ahhhh the YouTube classic. Great track as always.
- Never Too Much- Never Too Much?? Like Carti?????!!!! Great track once again. Might be tied with the TLC song for my top spot.
- Remember Summer Days- A very fun track, and it just like, sounds happy y’know.
- Smalltown Boy- This one was pretty good, but its probably my least favorite on the tape.
- Mayonaka no Door/ Stay With Me- Yet another great city pop track!!!
- My Flame- A pretty relaxed track, which is a good contrast, from everything that came before.
- Hounds of Love- This might be sacrilegious to some, but I've never really gotten into Kate Bush. This track was good, but something about Bush's music hasn't clicked with me, at least not yet.
FAVORITE TRACKS: Be My Lover, My Prerogative, What About Your Friends, Never Too Much

When The Blood Burns...
@AOTWClub
@Justin Trudeau
Quick review because I don't have much time this week.
I heard maybe a third of these before. I'm a big REM and Television fan, I was initially planning on putting some of their songs on my tape but I knew someone would beat me to it
The songs I never heard before were mostly amazing. My one issue is a me problem; I don't usually enjoy songs with non-english singing. My favourite part of music is vocals and lyrics, so not understanding them makes it less enjoyable (except when it's Carti or Thugger). Overall, excellent tape and I added a few new songs to my playlists. It was structured pretty well with similar styled songs grouped together. Bonus points for trying to add lesser known songs
Exuding the foreign language songs would have been close to a 10 but I will give this a

Coming up with a theme was a bit harder this time around. I took Allis’ criticism to heart and tried to find some artists maybe that maybe aren’t as well known. I’m not sure that I really succeeded in that regard. Truthfully, my music taste is quite basic, but I think the songs themselves aren’t too well known (aside from one or two exceptions). I tried to come up with a loose theme, so I guess just think of this record as a Frankenstein’s monster of a playlist that’s partly romantic/depressed/horny/whatever else you can think of. Without further ado, I present to you…
When The Blood Burns...
- Silver Morning (1983) - Brian Eno
- La Grasa de las Capitales (1979) - Seru Giran
- Fun House (1970) - The Stooges
- Waves of Fear (1982) - Lou Reed
- El borrego (1994) - Cafe Tacvba
- Sueles Dejarme Solo (1990) - Soda Stereo
- Группа крови [aka “Gruppa Krovi” or “Blood Type”] (1988) - Kino
- Tell Me When You Need It Again, Pts. 1 & 2 (1977) - The Isley Brothers
- A Tear for Eddie (1994) - Ween
- Eternal Life (1994) - Jeff Buckley
- Yolanda (1974) - Bobby “Blue” Bland
- Babylon (1996) - OutKast
- Debra (1999) - Beck
- Turn You Inside-Out (1988) - R.E.M.
- Torn Curtain (1977) - Television
- The Voice of Love (1992) - Angelo Badalamenti

Wreckless - Born to Boomer
Excellent mix tape. I recognized a lot of artists but wasn't familiar with most of these songs. Very good effort finding lesser known songs from this period. I liked how you kept to a hard rock theme. Hard rock isn't my favourite type of music , with a few exceptions, mainly because the vocals are often generic without any distinctiveness. But this did a great job keeping my interest. There were a few songs I wasn't a fan of including Christian women and the paradise lost songs, other than that this was a near perfect tape.

I AM MUSIC:
I'm actually gonna keep this one short cause I think my thoughts on this record are relatively cut and dry.
I think it's too long and it kinda grew off me the more I listened but it also made me like Carti more than I previously have, after this album finished songs from WLR came on and I found myself having a much better time listening to those than I did when I first heard that album.
I don't think this subgenre is super for me but I'm always willing to give it a chance and I got a handful of decent songs on here which I'm happy with!
As negative as this sounds so far I didn't hate the album, I have appreciation for the style and Carti helping carve out a new style of rap is cool whether you like it or not, a lot of the beats on here are crazy and when Cartis vocals or cadences work for me they really work.
I think the Thug and Uzi tracks are overhated, I'm not an avid listener of those two either so I might not know what people wanted from them but I thought they were both solid. The Kendrick features were fun albeit a little out of place feeling on songs like Mojo JoJo but it really worked for me on Backdoor which is one of the best songs on the album imo, I could've also done with one or two less Travis features something about a couple of em didn't click with me super hard. Weeknd did his thing.
I like that there's a place of this kind of rap and obviously it's resonating with people which is cool, I also like the amount of different kinds of people that wanna work with Carti, getting rappity rap people, trap artists and R&B/pop singers all hopping on this album makes for a pretty unique experience that you can't quite get anywhere else so I'm happy I listened!
P.S. Pop Out f---ing owns and the I SEEEEEE YOU BABY BOI beat is the best one on the album
Favorite songs: Pop Out, Rather Lie, Fine s---, Backd00r, Toxic, Good Credit, I SEEEEE YOU BABY BOI, Trim, Twin Trim, Like Weezy (realized I might like this album more than I let on with the amount of favorites but the album length broke me down a bit for the kind of music it is lmao)
