Wow!!! That is an amazing score man, thank you for the review. Glad you liked it so much. I am saving Stepdad - Intro and Stepdad for a special playlist. It is really hard to craft a mixtape where that song doesn’t overshine everything. Definitely one of the wonders of the modern world, wouldn’t want to soil everyone’s ears with other music after they’ve been exposed to the divine sounds of Eminem’s insecurities. Perhaps if the time when I deem myself worthy comes, I will post a harp cover of the song.

We haven’t all agreed on the next rounds theme yet, but @Michael Myers recently suggested an 80s theme in another thread and I like that idea

It was the opening initially but then I put The viagra boys track first to make it chronological.
    IMG_2142.jpeg

So I effectively had the mixtape start with the birth, ‘almost starting a fight’, and then the cops looking for jim jazz.

It was an attempt to connect some of the themes and also the point when I realised that making a concept mixtape on the character of Jimmy Jazz is impossible lol.

This was the closer at some point:

When I was younger I used to listen a lot to Rock music. Then rap came along and it has been a lot of rap, but also pop/latin/rnb with sometimes some rock s---.

But since we started this I been listening to rock a lot more. Not just because of the recs itt but also my own 'research' for my tape. Lmao its wild to see how this group/event affected my listening habits.

Speaking of spring break, I'll likely have Allis' mixtape review in early next week because of it!

Also with Jimmy's, I could not focus when I was listening to it, so I put it off for tomorrow. Review tomorrow 100%!

Great review, man! Yeah bro at this point the sync’d up music taste is allowing for infinite score farming:jaydaps:.

Jokes aside, I’m glad you liked my mix! The Clash song was something I kind of predicted not being in most people’s favorites because it is such an odd song. Clash is like an archetype punk band, and here you have them playing some whimsical jazz s--- lol. Definitely one of my favorite songs ever, though.

I’ll also say that Protomartyr kicks absolute a---. The whole album ‘Relatives In Descent’ seems like something that will definitely be up your alley. It has some sharper vocal mixing throughout it as well but the lyricism and the instrumentals stay very consistent.

Matt Elliott makes this weird gothic, dark folk music with touches of electronic that sounds like there’s a pack of 1800s british pirate vampires outside your bedroom door at 3 am. He has some really memorable music; I’d recommend ‘Drinking Songs’ if you ever find yourself in a devious yet melancholic mood lol. Finishes up with a crazy, droney 25 minute track.

Danny Brown as the closer is one of those things that make sense to me but it could be because I have disorders. If I’m putting any rapper’s work into an ‘alt-ish’ context, then its gotta be Danny.

    Again, thanks for listening!

ps. Saw your post about Untrue by Burial a few days back and listened to the album for the first time since like 2018. It is still flames. I appreciate the reminder!

Thats why hes the GOAT !!! Writing this review like this type s---:

Super glad you enjoyed is so much man! With any of these bands you don’t normally listen to such as Parquet Courts or The Strokes, I’d recommend starting with the albums that the songs I used come from. For example Parquet Courts’ ‘Wide Awake!’ and The Strokes’ ‘Is This It’. Great bunch of albums that I’m positive you will love since you liked these songs on my tape.

It wasn’t intentional but this one truly is for the skaters of the forum lmao.

Thank you for the awesome review. Loved reading through it!

Maybe it’s the sense of familiarity. You start noticing elements you didn’t catch before and it’s those details that make the artist's sound unique.

It happened to me with an artist not too long ago as well. It’s really fascinating how that happens. It’s crazy how sometimes one song can make or break an artist/band. They put out one song that finally clicks for people and then out of nowhere the rest of the discography can end up looking a lot better. Things like this are why I try to give artists and bands multiple chances before I say that I truly don’t like them. Human brains are interesting

I had a similar experience with a band I found recently. Now pretty much their entire discography has me hooked.

Aquired taste is definitely a real thing.

Yeah I’ll try to find songs from them that click for me. The way it works with me with artists sometimes is I won’t like certain songs but suddenly I’ll find a song from them I love and then I suddenly like the songs from them that I didn’t like before. It’s like unlocking a new neural pathway in my brain

The first draft I made for the mixtape was all rock and it felt kind or repetitive so I tried picking some rap songs that wouldn’t be sticking out like a sore thumb. Again, thanks for the nice review!

This would have been a 9 but being a rating hoe and picking 16 classic/renowned songs to receive a high score is slutty behavior

Also funny to see that most people really enjoyed Nena's song. Did not expect that
