Ripper Roo - Ripper Raw
Wait a second. If there's a "Ripper Raw" does that mean that there's a "Ripper Smackdown"???
Jokes aside, I was very excited to get into Ripper's tape. "Every Roo Has Its Day" had quite a few pop/R&B tracks, so to have a full-on 80's/90's Hip-Hop tape was a choice that I was very intrigued by. With that said, here is the track by track:
- It’s Been A Long Time- The only non-feature songs I know from Rakim come from Paid in Full, so this is new. I love the track, and it works as an incredible intro.
- Hey Young World- Wasn’t too into this one, but I still liked it. Also, hearing the “believe it or not” line that was sampled on Kanye’s “No Mistakes” was a trip I swear.
- Far From Yours- Pretty dope sample. Never heard of O.C. before, but he did great on this track.
- Straighten It Out- Yet another great track!!! Pete Rock is one of the GOATs and CL Smooth absolutely kills it
- Smooth Operator- Hey this isn’t the Sade song!!! Just joking of course. This is once again a great track, and the sample work on the beat is nuts.
- Ya Playin’ Yaself- I know that I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but this is a great track AGAIN. Ripper is on a roll, dear God.
- A Friend- This beat is f---ing fire, holy s---. KRS kills the verses as well.
- Get Down- Yet ANOTHER b-----r. The first half of this tape is absolutely incredible
- What I’m Here 4- I f---ing love Moment of Truth, and I f---ing love this song. I swear, Ripper absolutely cooked with this tape
- Dirty South- A track from one of the best Atlanta rap albums ever??? Oh lord, I'm gonna faint. Great track once again
- Double Trouble- You know the drill. Incredible track, and Mos Def is one of the best rappers EVER.
- Let the Games Begin- I love Pun and Joe, so this track is an absolute treat.
- Hard Knox- Wasn't familiar with Ant Banks before this, but I loved this track as well, That beat is nasty
- Punk Mutha Fuckaz- I know this is strange, but the only other 2nd II None song that I know is from a Sopranos episode where 2 guys are smoking bongs in their underwear, while watching their HDTV. Strange memories aside, I really enjoyed this track as well, although its probably the weakest on the tape, at least for me.
- I’m The f---in’ Murderer- Another great track, amazing beat, and Spice-1 kills it.
- Ready To Die- Classic Biggie track and a great outro.
FAVORITE TRACKS: ALL OF THEM
RATING: 10/10 (i'm a scorewhore, I admit it)

Everyone's (Fifth) Favorite Mixtape:
I had an all around good time with this one! No More ?'s was a super fun opener Eazy E is always nice to listen to.
Everlasting Bass was cool, I liked hearing the original sample and it had a good sound even if it didn't click with me as much as some others.
Sunset Driver is f---ing dope, the crack that MJ put in his music is lethal.
Dancing Queen is a classic, anyone who hates ABBA is no friend of mine.
We Got The Beat is another good classic, idk if I actually listened to this song in full before so that was cool
I'll Be Loving You is a super smooth pleasant jam, I'm happy some of this music is making its way into the playlists I was afraid it'd get a little samey even with the large net of the prompt.
Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey was a lot more enjoyable than I was expecting, especially that second half. A confession of mine is that I've barely listened to the Beatles group or solo work so outside of the huge hits I'm not very familiar.
I will forever be biased towards Journey, incredibly more so when it's my goat Steve Perry on the mic. Wheel In The Sky is a great pick. I have a journey song on my Playlist but depending on how I'm feeling I might switch it out for something else now, I have a couple ideas.
Baby Blue was great, very enjoyable track. The only problem it has (albeit an unfair one) is that all the tracks coming after are generational.
Call Me is a 10, anyone who disagrees is a liar and a whole
I've always loved Joan Jett so Bad Reputation speaks to my soul
Now there's Beastie Boys songs I like more but for the sake of a playlist I think Sabotage is a good pick, you can't really go wrong with any of their hits.
These next couple songs hit a soft spot for me, My Own Summer is actually goated. Great song from a great album and a good mixtape pick for deftones.
Heart Shaped Box is my favorite Nirvana song, it's incredible. Everything about it is perfect and it's unfairly my favorite song of the tape.
Not much to say about Wish You Here, it's f---in Wish You Were Here everyone should love this one
Nothing Else Matters was a good closer, it's a well known one but not something someone would immediately think of which I appreciate.
Overall: I think the only thing I can really dock this on is that it's not really cohesive sonically but it doesn't need to be, I liked basically all the songs except for one or two that just aren't for me. This had a good mix of variety that never overstayed its welcome and was a smooth listen all the way through which is difficult when choosing between so many genres.
Favorite songs: No More ?'s, Sunset Driver, Wheel In The Sky, Call Me, Bad Reputation, Heart Shaped Box, Wish You Were Here

@DiggleDogg69 - Everyone’s Fifth Favorite Mixtape
review
I’ve been listening to this mixtape for a few days now and can confidently say that this is truly a well assembled mix. It is also one that came closest to fulfilling the expectations I’ve had from this whole idea of a period playlist spanning three decades up until the turn of the century.
What I mean by this is; everyone’s tapes so far have been really great, but this one simply captures that glammy, borderline excessive feel of those 30 years.
I’m not saying that we should’ve been forcing ourselves to portray this essence, because my mixtape most certainly does not do that - it fails miserably lol. My point is, when I think of this period’s music, sounds like this immediately come to mind. Hence, Everyone’s Fifth Favorite Mixtape is a really great product of it’s time, it is made up of nothing but bangers and the era’s musical standouts.
I don’t have all that much to say about the songs themselves; a ton of them are classics that I’ve been enjoying for years and will continue to do so. Despite this, there are tracks on here that I wasn’t really familiar with. For example the MJ demo track which is a deeply enjoyable, fun standout. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a demo this polished.
Another song I enjoyed a lot more than I expected was the ‘New Kids On The Block s--- a lot of d-ck, boy-girl groups make me sick’ track. Jokes aside, this song is so great. Such a tender and wavy moment on this tape.
I’ve been a big McCartney fan for years but somehow never got around to listening to Ram. I should really get to that album ASAP cause Uncle Albert/ Admiral Halsey was easily my favorite song on here. It just does it for me,man. Precisely the right ratio of vibes to artsiness. Stellar, stellar song. Catchy as h--- too, McCartney is so good at this songwriting s---, he should’ve had started a band back in the day, man.
Hearing Joan Jett on here was a treat too. I love her. Bad Reputation and Sabotage were a great burst of energy to start off the closing portion of this tape with. The Deftones song, too. I never dug very deep into the Deftones discog, I mean I haven’t really heard anything besides for White Pony. My Own Summer (Shove It), however, was a brilliant track. These guys build a great atmosphere on here, Chino’s voice is very engaging.
The final three tracks being back-to-back legendary tunes is a bit of a safe play but I cannot fault you for it. All three songs are massive classics that pretty much cannot be overplayed. Nothing Else Matters is a good choice of a closer!
Overall, it is pretty much impossible to hate on this. It is a great collection of songs. Thank You for getting me to finally listen to this McCartney project and thanks for the fun mix in general!
Not trying to spite you but this one ain’t sounding like my Fifth Favorite Mixtape, it’s sounding like a
10/10

Rites Of Exorcism:
Starting I'll say I really like the entire idea and sequencing of this tape, seems like one of the highest effort ones so far and it's filled with some great stuff.
Witchy Woman was a cool opener, I obviously know some stuff but never got super into The Eagles so it was nice to hear them.
I Put A Spell On You is also great, Manson has a really good grasp of his sound and I can usually expect good quality from what he wants to do with his music.
Not much to say about The Devil Went Down To Georgia, its a classic, no flaws. 10/10
Bark At The Moon is also a classic, not one of the Ozzy tracks I hear as much as the others but still equally iconic. Haven't heard it in a minute so it was a nice revisit.
Werewolves Of London is a 10 for me, I f---in love this song. Everything about it is so fun in a non obnoxious way. I much prefer this to the other song with the same chord progression (Sweet Home Alabama)
I wanted to like A Nightmare On My Street more, it's a little long winded for me and this era of rap storytelling is pretty hit or miss for me in general, the concept is fun though!
Somebody's Watching Me is also a 10, not only is it already a perfect song but it has MJ on backup vocals. If anyone doesn't like this song they deserve to get old yeller'd
He's Back (The Man Behind The Mask) is another great one, I never went deep into the Alice Cooper discography but my brother has been lately and he got me to agree to go to a concert with him which should be fun lol.
Night Prowler, another classic. AC/DC can be hit or miss for people but I mostly enjoy their work.
(Don't Fear) The Reaper is closely related to other media that I forget just how great the song is front to back another 10/10 for sure, it's been a minute since I listened to it in full. And I assume this isn't intentional but my autism associations liked that a Rob Zombie track came right after considering they both have a connection to the Halloween franchise.
Speaking of. Living Dead Girl is a personal favorite, I always liked Rob Zombies wacky s--- whether it be between his movies (which are overhated) or his Batman Beyond a--- music. Good choice but for anyone who hasn't listened he has plenty of great tracks on top of this.
Another band my brother has been wanting me to got on a deep dive with him on is The Ramones, same situation as Alice Cooper where I like what I heard but never did much diving into the discography. I really like them though and need to listen to more besides their first album, this is a great track. A classic and very catchy.
Shout At The Devil tickles my Guitar Hero autism brain so I'll forever love this song in a way more than just being an all around good song cause it permeated my childhood in a very real way lol
The Omen was a solid choice for a DMX pick I think in terms of rap storytelling this works for me much better, it's not something I listen to often but I always enjoyed it and I think Marilyn kills it.
Not much to say about Carry on My Wayward Son, again one of the most iconic rock songs ever made and it deserves every bit of praise it gets, another one in the guitar hero pantheon of changing my brain chemistry and shaping the music I liked growing up.
I thought I wasn't going to enjoy 1-800 Suicide just cause sometimes horrorcore stuff can be a little try hard to me but this was fun! Solid closer to an all around pretty great mixture.
Favorite Songs: Werewolves Of London, Somebody's Watching Me, He's Back, Don't Fear The Reaper, Living Dead Girl, Pet Sematary, Shout At The Devil, Carry on My Wayward Son

It’s hard to think of a song released in the 21st century that hits the same dopamine highs as this masterpiece. The buildup and solo are pure perfection.
